Trail of Tears

europe.jpgWe all know our beloved Glam bands made some crazy videos back in the day. Some have stood the test of time...and others, well...not so much.

You remember Europe, right? You know "The Final Countdown." That's a good song - even if it's about aliens or traveling to Venus or whatever. So, we've established "bonkers" is the norm for the Swedish band - but what about Native Americans?

I don't know how it's possible - but I swear the first time I ever saw the video for "Cherokee" was about 12 hours ago. Oh, how did I live without knowing of this video's existence?

As a song, "Cherokee" is pretty good - but the video seems crazy to me. Maybe it's watching a Glam band playing during a stampede in the mountains?

I wonder why Europe isn't rumored for Rocklahoma? Every other band of the genre has at least been mentioned. I know Europe still have a lot of fans in the United States - and everyone knows the words to "The Final Countdown" and "Carrie." Here's some other food for thought: the band is curiously open during the weekend of Rocklahoma (and therefore the South Texas Rock Fest). They are playing Rockweekend in Sweden on July 18. Seems there would be plenty of time to jump to the States, play Rocklahoma (or South Texas) and fly back over to their homeland.

Speaking of crazy - Europe has the oddest website I've ever seen. It honestly made me jump the first time I clicked onto their page. Don't believe me? See for yourself by clicking here. Don't say I didn't warn you.

their new music is really great, no more cheesy "final countdown" keyboards. i don't have my hopes up for seeing them at rocklahoma this year. it's not so easy as just jumping on a plane. all the equipment, roadies, techs, etc have to be dealt with and all for 1 show and then back to europe? i doubt it's fiscally possible but i'd love to see them on the sunday lineup.

I LOVE Europe's new material, Secret Society is one of my favorite albums from the last two years. I've seen them live early last year and I hope one day they will reach the point where they don't have to play Carrie or The Final Countdown anymore. I HATE those songs. Songs like this keep bringing people to concerts who know Europe only through the radio and have no clue that Europe is so much better than the radio represents them.

I had wondered myself, why they weren't even rumored for Rocklahoma, they would fit so well. AND they are an excellent live band. Kingdom Come plays only ROK too, right? If they can do it, Europe can do it too. =) I doubt it will happen, but it would be great.

Yeah I know what you mean Allyson. I like the song "Cherokee" though. My favorite Europe album however is not "The Final Countdown"'s "Out Of This World".

Start from the Dark is my favorite Europe album... Prisoners in Paradise follows a close second. These guys got a bum rap... but they're immortal thanks to The Final Countdown being played at stadiums, and of course in reruns of Arrested Development everytime Gob does his tricks.... I'm sorry, ILLUSIONS.... a trick is something a whore does for money... or cocoaine.

Europe just never fit into the "Glam" catagorie for me. They fit more into the "super cheesy" catagory...
I just don't care for them. Not my cup of tea. Nice teeth and perms though.

Super cheesy? I guess that means you have no clue what you are talking about. Don't judge a band just from one or two songs. You have no idea what you are missing.

I would love to see them live some day
