Bulletboys on a Side Stage...

Well, the Bulletboys are playing Rocklahoma -- they were added yesterday to the TriLabel side stage. You might recall Marq Torien, et. al. played the mainstage last year. In fact, The Bulletboys gave one of the best performances of 2007, but it was early in the day and I think people were tired because the crowd wasn't very big or active.

I honestly can't even keep the Rocklahoma lineup straight anymore. I swear, I'm going to have to print the schedule - and by that I mean wait until the day before the event to make sure I get every late add - and then laminate the damn thing. If I don't have a piece of all-weather paper in my hand telling me who is playing when - and where - the coverage on this website isn't going to be pretty. Just thinking about the four days in the oppressive Oklahoma heat, wandering from stage to stage makes me twitch. You'll notice I say four days, because I've decided not to go to the pre-pre party day on Wednesday. My flights were booked months ago, as was the hotel and the rental car -- and the Glam rock husband drew the line in the sand at changing all our plans. I actually understand where he's coming from for once.

Some of these side stage bands are playing Wednesday too, and I think in a couple instances some bands are actually playing both stages on different days.

I have to admit I'm really surprised the Bulletboys are playing a side stage. No, I don't have grandiose thoughts that the Bulletboys were ever as big as Motley Crue or anything like that, but I do think it's odd some lesser known bands are essentially headliners and some 80s Glam favorites are - literally - shoved to the side. I suppose this could have something to do with the "no repeat" policy Catch the Fever Festival organizers instituted this year...but now there are repeats on the mainstage (*cough* Steelheart) so that argument doesn't hold weight anymore.

Never mind, take Bangalore Choir off the list! According to Blabbermouth, the band just pulled out. From Blabbermouth:

"The reunited BANGALORE CHOIR has cancelled its appearance at this year's Rocklahoma festival, which will be held July 9-13, 2008 at the Catch The Fever Festival Grounds, four miles north of Pryor, Oklahoma. Replacing them on the bill will be the Swedish band GYPSY ROSE, featuring BANGALORE CHOIR singer David Reece."

See what I mean about waiting until the day before the fest to laminate that piece of paper?!?

I think Risola is one of the most underated guitarists in the genre. Both of the first 2 Steelheart albums are a testament to his ability.

you see Christian, I'm on the inside with the band,,maybe I misunderstood what you and allison were getting at. And why I waste my time chatting on a computer makes me more of an idiot than anyone! I just saw the "cough Comment that allison put before the name steelheart, and That obviously means that she doesn't think much of them... I respect her opinion. Most fans are just into lyrics or if a band has good lookin' guys. So they think they're a good band. We musicians know better.. If you can play live... not in the studio...jesus,,,anyone can do a studio take 200 times..live in one take is another ballgame, and Steelheart pulls it off live everytime. So if your a music fan, you gotta like 'em. Hope you get to meet them , and / or see them live sometime. In a nutshell, they will never play on a side stage. Way back when, they were known for blowing the headline act off the stage...they have to much talent to be an opening act. The people that run Rocklahoma asked them to come back this year and play the mainstage...Money talks... They bring in fans..I guess it just bugs me cause I know all the guys personally, and they are all good people..and the guys were not hired by mili, they contacted him to join the band...players want to play with other great players

You did miss allyson's point. she was just saying that bullet boys should not be on the side stage after having been part of the main stage lineup last year. she thought perhaps that had to do with the fact that festival organizers had the "no repeat policy", for the main 3 days of the festival ( not including the pre-party days ). it could have been twisted sister in steelheart's place and she would've said the same thing. So don't take it as anything said against the band, but rather the way the whole festival has panned out this year as far the set of rules they had put in place for booking no repeats from last year. they should've just booked the fan favorites early on. That would have saved a lot of the bitching from fans as well.

maybe you three are right...but the "cough" comment is what got under my skin....I just have a problem with people, who more than likely have no musical talent , or do and have never made it to the big show, thinking a band with more talent than most, should have a "cough" comment , which means that she thinks they suck, attached to them. And I do agree with all of you that the organizers messed up completely. I know for a fact that the band was not offered enough money, or a good time slot, so they went back and forth haggling over these particulars...Hey.... lets just enjoy seeing all these bands rock...compared to the crap thats out there now, this retro rock is superior....

Yes, you did. And I guess that's why you're willing to buy the marketing BS, because you're taking it all personally. The cough comment means nothing, to Steelheart. It just means, here is an example of a band that played last year, so why are Bulletboys not on the main stage, too ? Steelheart are a good band, that's really not the point she was making.

Maybe I did take it too personally..I've known these guys since they were Red Alert back in the late 70's. I agree with you both on the BS bands have to go through with the business end of music..My brother can tell you horror stories about that...hey man...have a good one down under . I've never been there, but I did date a beauty from there when I was younger. I live around San Diego, Ca. and I frequent this Aussie nightclub in downtown San Diego called BONDI..the ownwer is aussie, and all the employees are too. He actually recruits them and brings them over from down under...a great nightclub...Christian, keep playin' and have a good life....john...check out my myspace...

Hey that's Great! Thanks for clearing all of this up Christian. The cough comment had nothing to do with SteeHeart in a negative way. It could have just as easily been Cough Dokken or cough L.A Guns, or Cough RATT....or Cough any of the other repeat bands! We feel a lot better now. Thanks again

Well, the Bulletboys are playing the main stage of the South Texas Rock Fest on Friday, July 11th.
I'll be there, as well as an estimated crowd of 35,000 to 50,000.
Granted, Rocklahoma is the bigger and more well-known festival...but I'm still wondering why the STRF is getting hardly any publicity??
