Atreyu Does Bon Jovi = Epic Win

Glam on Glam, readers!

So, the other day a few of you happened to mention that Atreyu suck. They are playing this coming weekend (!) at Rock on the Range. I have some of their stuff; I don't hate or like them enough to really have an opinion one way or the other BUT...they did make an awesome cover of "You Give Love a Band Name." The song is featured on the limited edition version of the 2004 release, The Curse and soundtrack to Mr. and Mrs. Smith.

Yeah, Atreyu does Bon Jovi...screamo style. 

Before you freak out, flip cars, riot in the streets - just read. This modernized, screamo version of "You Give Love a Bad Name" is great for Bon Jovi and Glam. Why? Because it gives our music modern relevance. Sure, Bon Jovi doesn't need any more cash. Hell, Jon's great-great grandkids will be living off the "Bad Medicine" residuals, and yet...it's important these sort of covers exist.

Atreyu definitely put their own spin on "You Give Love a Bad Name" but the most crucial parts of the song are left intact. You know, the guitar solos and the big, harmonic chorus. What does this mean? It means Atreyu must be Bon Jovi fans and appreciate the song structure by the New Jersey Glam gods.

Click and listen. I'm sure all the comments will be negative, but whatever. It's 2009 and it's time some new bands bring back Glam any way they can. I hope Atreyu play this song next weekend. I guarantee every single person in the crowd will sing along. Every.single.one.of.us.

Its not bad. But Atreyu truely does suck. I saw them at Ozz-fest a couple years ago and it was shear torture. But hey, if you want modern glam covers, check out the Poison, Whitesnake, and Motley Crue covers on the new Static-X cd "the best buy exclusive version". Theyre pretty damn good too. And Hinder does a good cover of Bon Jovi's you give love a bad name as well.

Allyson , please keep the integrity of this site intact and stop justifying 'new' bands existence because they a shitty cover of a classic song. Why don't you start promoting bands like Wildstreet , Dirty Penny , Airbourne , Endeverafter , Vanity XO and those sort of bands? THEY are the ones keeping the real Hard Rock and/or Glam alive. I heard that cover a long time ago as well, and I thought it was decent. Not blow my mind amazing, but it was good, and I enjoyed listening to it.
However, I have to agree with someone else...Hinder's cover of a Bon Jovi song was good too, but it isn't You Give Love A Bad Name, it's Bed of Roses.

So, if we like a band that doesn't sound like the 80s, even if it's the 70's they sound like, it means we should deny ourselves the chance to see them, to prove a point ? Treason ? Are you insane ? This is music, it's entertainment. Our music is NEVER coming back in the form it had, b/c you'll never get the majority of teenagers listening to something that's purely retro. STOP buying into ClearChannel's mess. DON'T mention them , DON'T support them , DON'T go to festivals that have that shit on the bill and DON'T go buy their music. Sooner or later someone is going to take note. I don't expect kids to like 80s bands , but I do believe they will like NEW bands that look and sound like 1985. Think about it.

Sam, I gotta agree with comments I see on here and other threads; you gotta stop insulting people and their taste in music. So what if it's not your cup of tea? Come on man, instead of telling everyone that they should be into bands that look or sound like the 80's, (and that basically they suck and are responsible for the demise of 80's metal if they aren't), why not - as the head of a record company devoted to 80's metal - invite them to check out some new or new to them bands that they might like ON YOUR LABEL.

You have a real opportunity on this forum and others to turn people on to Retrospect Records and all the great artists there but instead you're pissing people off. And that has a direct effect on the artists that carry the RR stamp on their music.

Most of the people here ARE into 80's rock but we might be into other stuff too - we're not single sighted. Don't tell me that you ONLY listen to one kind of music.
