Should Vince Neil Be Honored?

It was recently announced that Vince Neil would be receiving the 'Lifetime Achievement in Rock 'n' Roll Award,' presented to him by Vegas Rocks! Magazine.  Few music related stories have ever bothered me quite as much as this one did.  Personally, I think that Vince is a deplorable human being, and that fact that people are choosing to honor him rather than shun him shocks me.

My dislike for Vince has really developed over the past few years, but the primary reason has to do with his recent arrest in Las Vegas for driving under the influence (oddly enough, which occurred in the very city that is honoring him).  Let's all remember that Vince was solely responsible for the death of Razzle Dingley from Hanoi Rocks many years ago, as Vince crashed his car while he was driving drunk with Razzle in the car.  As tragic as that was, I did not hate Vince for that.  He was a young rock star that suddenly had a lot of money, and he made a bad decision which resulted in Razzle's tragic death.  However, this is an event that should have altered his life from that point forward.  He robbed the world of another life, and living with that must have been horrible.... but he did not learn his lesson, and he did it again, and endangered the lives of himself and others on the road. I do not care that it was 20 plus years after the fact, because it never should have happened again.  He is older and should be wiser now, but apparently he is still just as dumb as he was in his twenties.  Add to that the recent allegations of domestic violence, the many accounts of fans that have met him only to have him be outright rude to them, and the lackluster performance he delivers live.  I was at M3 in 2010, and Vince disappeared for three songs of a set that was less than an hour total. (Thankfully, his talented band did an amazing job, but how is Vince not present for that many songs that are being played by the Vince Neil Band)?

Yet Vince continues to do well in the world of rock. Motley Crue has embarked on a tour that is putting up successful numbers, and is expected to continue to do so throughout the summer. His solo band is doing well, his book sold many copies, and he is becoming quite the businessman (as he has really been branding his name as of late). What puzzles me is who is continuing to support him?  With the recent not guilty verdict on the Casey Anthony case, the world is asking, "Where is the justice for Caylee?" Everyone seems to be upset by the idea that Casey Anthony is poised to cash-in on the tragedy that her daughter suffered, and the world seems ready to boycott anything that her name is attached to. I understand this reaction, and it makes sense as most people would not want to see an accused murderer profit for any reason.

My question to the readers of this site is this: are you going to protest and boycott any television shows featuring or books written by Casey Anthony regarding the death of her child and the trial that followed?  And if you answered "yes" to that question, are you also going to attend the Motley Crue tour this summer?  Finally, if your answer to both questions were "yes," then why do you support one person who we know took the life of another and yet continues to behave in the same dangerous manner, but not other who was not actually found guilty of any murder/manslaughter charges?  How do you decide which murders to support and which ones you will shun (assuming Casey Anthony did, in fact, murder her daughter)? Motley Crue will be at the Mohegan Sun Arena on July 15th (about an hour from my house), and I will be nowhere near the venue that night.  I do not deny the fact that Motley wrote some of the greatest songs of the genre and they put on an amazing live show, but I can not justify putting any of my money into Vince's pockets.

Where is the justice for Razzle?

Vince's wife says she was not that drunk....well there is an impartial statement. Regardless, I stated that I did not really dislike Vince for Razzle's death. That, however, should have taught him the consequences of his actions, but obviously, it hasn't, as he continues to drive intoxicated. I agree that Vince losing his daughter was tragic, as it would be for any person, but that tragedy should have further reinforced to him the value of human life, but it does not appear to do so.

Sure alcoholism is a disease. I don't dispute that, but a symptom of that disease does is not getting behind the wheel and endangering the lives of others. If Vince wants to be an alcoholic, then that is his burden, but when it starts endangering the lives of others, then it becomes a broader problem. Personally, I don't care what kind of arrangement he had with management wherein he had to pay $10K for each drink. I care that he doesn't put my family at risk because he is driving drunk. That fee is meaningless to the family that he destroys when he kills someone else because he is driving drunk again. So he deserves to be honored?

Pictures of injuries on BOTH parties....so you are saying that Vince was right to hit or back, or was it vice versa? Did he hit her and then she hit back. All that does is further prove that he hit a woman. So he deserves to be honored?

That is why he shouldn't be given an award. You have to look at the whole picture. By your argument, if Casey Anthony recorded an album that was the next "Appetite for Destruction" and then continued on in music semi-successfully for 20 years, then she deserves to be honored as well? As per your argument, one thing has nothing to do with the other, right?

As I said earlier, I don't care about his voice or his weight, I care about his character, and his is flawed to the point that he should not be honored. Getting behind the wheel drunk AGAIN (and at his age) to me, when he full well knows the potential consequences, is as deplorable to me as putting duct tape over your child's mouth. So I do compare Vince to Anthony because both demonstrate a complete disregard for the safety and lives of others...except Anthony may have stopped her behavior.......Vince is still drinking and driving.

Brian, Vince has done some very stupid things in his
past. He obviously has not learned his lesson about drunk driving either. It was a horrible tragedy regarding Razzle, and also vince's daughter. I agree that he is an idiot. He also has some talent considereing the the bands success. What's wrong with him getting a rock and roll award considereing that was what he was best at.
On another note, this friday the 15th Kip Winger is at showcase live in foxboro ma. Same place where you saw Stryper. My wife works for the co and says there are still tix left. She also said that Cinderella is selling out fast so get your tix if you want to see them. I'll be there for both shows.
Peace out

Rich - I cannot understand honoring someone that has such a selfish disregard for the safety and well being of others. He recorded some great songs, but isn't deserving of being honored.

I won't be at the Winger show, but on your advice, I got my ticket for Cinderella this morning, so I WILL be there! Thanks dude!

Ur a Dumb Fuck! I just saw Mötley Crüe in Birmingham, AL, Saturday, July 9, 2011. He was Awesome! Iv loved him since I was like, 9, and I was even shocked at his performance! He Sang ALL the Words, and his voice was perfect! He wasn't a bit overweight! He Looked and Sounded Beautiful! And they played, I know 14 songs! I mean, he is 50 yrs old! And, he lost his daughter at 3 yrs old! So, Dumb Fuck? Do u think U could do half as good?

Ummmm, yes. At 50 I can promise you that I will not have killed anyone due to driving drunk, I will not be a repeated drunk driver, and I will have hit NO women.

Obviously to you, character isn't important, so long as you get to hear a relatively skinny guy sing "Wildside."

Last time I got drunk enough to need a ride home I seriously doubt I checked that the driver was sober enough to drive himself. If Razz and Vince went to the party in Vince's car, then he should have been responsible enough to either remain sober or spend whatever was left of the night. I highly doubt Razz was thinking being wrapped around a pole would be a great last hoorah.

I just saw the Crue with poison a few days ago and it was a great show. I even liked poison! After watching Bret Michaels,I thought to myself "I bet Nikki wishes Vince was more like Bret." I think Vince is a dumbass who is lucky to be in Motley Crue,I went mainly because I'm a big fan of Mick Mars, and he is still great.Tommy's roller coaster drum solo was awesome IMO,and Nikki still makes an effort to show his appreciation to us fans. But watching Vince,I thought "this guy is so effin lucky." I saw him interviewed by his TV reporter girlfriend and he had the nerve to say that his 10 days in jail for drunk driving was to harsh. He said he got a stiffer penalty because he's famous. Are you kidding me Vince? What an idiot! I think he's on the road to ruin.I won't be surprised if he does it again,or even kills someone. But Mick,Tommy and Nikki still rocked and put on a great show despite Vince.Go see them while you can,Mick is 60 yrs old and he's half man half metal as Nikki says.

So sorry you are butt-hurt over Vince Neil. Did he fuck your girlfriend? To compare him to that piece of shit "mom" that killed her daughter is laughable.

Yeah, he's a drunk asshole. So what? Maybe you should go to the awards ceremony and protest. Let us know how it works out. I'll be over here, not giving a shit and living my life...

Vince being honored is actually somewhat humerous. I have seen them live 6times and can say his voice hasn't been worthy of anything past shower singing performances in 20 years. I have gone for the "show" not for vocal ability. That is long gone.
I have to agree that there has got to be a better person to award this too. Vince is not and should not be celebrated in any way shape and or form. It's unfortunate but I do feel Skylar's death is karma for Razzle. Instead of turning his life around he's still an irresponsible drunk who is beating woman and putting the public in danger getting behind the wheel.
Sadly the next time I hope it's himself he kills because no one else deserves to suffer at the hands of the great Vince Neil.
It's a damn shame when Tommy Lee is the sane one.
