The Worst Looks in Metal

I recently wrote a piece for Noisecreep that basically outlines the most ridiculous stage looks in all of metal (both past and present).


The #10 spot goes to Hevisaurus. Sometimes these articles just write themselves. Seriously, a Finnish band that actually wears dinosaur costumes on stage?! These guys make songs for kids with a power metal beat. Gimmick or not, Hevisaurus know how to sell records. Their debut 'Jurahevin kuninkaat' (in English, 'Kings of Jurassic Metal'), stayed on the Finnish top albums chart for ten weeks. No word if Hevisaurus is available for private bookings or play dates.

How did you not put Metallica when they cut their hair and wore the matching suits from Load? The most appropriately named album because it was a load of crap.

There are a few other looks I could have done without. Can't even think of the band names but there were a few around who looked way too much like women (too much girly make-up and lingerie). I like a strong feminine side in rocker dudes but some of them took it a little too far.

As far as Hevisaurus goes, I like the idea. I think it is great that kids have another option in music. It beats Mylie Cyrus and Britney Spears and all the other crap that is force feed to America's youth. I hope this band puts out 15 more release and tops the chart many more times.

Oh my god!!! First I can just say that i am now interested in this Pirate Thrash Band!! They ROCK!!

Yep, expected Stryper to be there thats a given. I surprised Nitro wasn't on the list but hey i gotta give you credit, most black metal outfits are pretty stupid.

What? I think Stryper and Nitro looked awesome. Try Diamond Rexx or Teeze, if you wanna see stupid looks. Interestingly, Teeze became Roughhouse, a much better band with a much better look.

To be honest, I like my Hair Metal over-the-top and prefer the look of Crüe and Poison, etc., at their Glammiest. Even tho Crüe kinda toned it down, they never totally abandoned it, whereas, Poison and countless others chucked the Aquanet for cowboy hats and to me, that looked really stupid and still does unless you are Rock City Angels or someone that started with that look and it's in your blood.
