Former Lillian Axe Guitarist Jon Ster Dies

If you're a fan of Lillian Axe you might remember Jon Ster. The guitarist was with the band long ago - he was an original member. According to the Lillian Axe Facebook account, Ster died yesterday. No other information was given. Here's the Facebook post below.

RIP, Awesome band then and now, but the first four albums (when Ster was in the band) are definitely the best.

Ditto Jack's comments. God Bless & God Speed, Jon Ster. Only wish I had been more up on the great bands back then, as I had seen many there... Britny Fox, KIX, Warrant and Bang Tango among them, with the latter of which I witnessed Slash joining in stage.

Unfortunately, I missed Ster with Axe.

FYI, in case you may not have known... Robbin Crosby produced Lillian Axe's first album, the band having been discovered by RATT's management. They hail from New Orleans but sound straight off The Strip. Naturally, Axe put out their best stuff with Ster. Check out "Misery Loves Company", "Show A Little Love" and the standout "My Number" for 100% Prime L.A. Style 80's Glam Metal of the highest quality.

Not to get off topic, but did you know (Metalboy!) that "My Number" is a cover? Originally done by Girl (feat Phil Collen and Phil Lewis). I love that song, but did not know for many years about this. The original is good, but I actually think LA did it better.

WOW, Jack! I wondered why it sounds familiar, since I have all of Girl's albums, which I purchased BEFORE Collen defected to Def Leppard.

And I have to agree, Lillian Axe really L.A.'d it up in every sense, no doubt, a tribute to Ster's talented playing.

Blows me away.when jon came back home to Michigan we would stay up all night catching up downing the crown and coming up with new graphics for his guitars.gonna miss my brother. Was kinda cool..when he called me and I answered..first thing I heard was his grumbly voice..Crates..and I knew it was him. He was a hell of friend.miss ya freud.

Great Point MB Robin Crosby did produce the first album which is still in rotation on my 101 CD changer.. I saw the Dream of a Lifetime Video in 1988 it was the last video of the night. The next week we left the bay area for a Rim Pac and stopped at the Portland Rose Festival. Lillian Axe was playing at the Starry Nights opening for Krokus. I spent every penny I had and stood in line for an hour to get front and center. I got to meet Jon who was really a great guy and Stevie Blaze. It was one of the best shows I have seen in a club.. Got a signed copy of a demo somewhere...

Hahaha!!! What is this Bring Back Film-Flam?! Has this site been hacked by Russians, too?! Or the CIA?! Never fear, we've got the Dream Police on the case! Hahaha, don't believe any of that rubbish, boyz!

Imposters beware, the truth is, I never saw these guys but wish I had, RIP, John Ster, especially when you consider I saw KIX at Limelight in 1991 around the same time I saw Bang Tango with Slash jumping onstage for 3 songs after joining opening act, Gin Gypsy, before that, for two songs. I remember telling this story on here a couple of years ago, thus the vague Slash reference from the earlier scoundrelish mimicry above.

I thought Local Jersey Early 90's Hard Rock act, Gin Gypsy would have been huge as they sounded like a cross between AC/DC and Creedence Clearwater Revival. You can imagine what a loud local Rock & Roll band on the cusp of greatness sounds like with the hottest guitarist of the moment.

p.s. Got all the Lillian Axe Stuff for better or worse since first purchasing their debut. God speed. Jon Steve, and Accept (yes!) no substitutes!
