Another Motley Crue Ad, More Cash For Nikki Sixx

The Motley Crue/Dodge partnership sure is paying off. Today another commercial, this time for the Dodge Charger featuring Motley's "Kickstart My Heart." The commercial not only uses the song - the voice-over mentions the band, too. The title of the ad is called "Just Kidding" and from a marketing standpoint, I think the ad copy is darn smart. Plus, Nikki Sixx is making fat stacks of cash. Good for him.

I thought KIA burned this tune as their track.

Shoulda done the buyout, David & Golliath (Kia's ad agency) cuz Weiden & Kennedy (Dodge's, Nike's AND Old Spice's agency) just owned you with the track.

I bet they got it a lot cheaper, too, since it's now "Pre-Owned!

I needed a laugh, Metalboy! Many thanks.

And, for all the slagging I did when MC music was used in the Kia commercial, at least the Dodge brand is more in keeping with the image they would like to portray/posture they would like to assume. Not that the band minds or cares. Again, Kia?!!? No, money.

At least it isn't Dio's "Eat Your Heart Out" helping to sell burgers or Priest selling mini-vans. The former, I assume, is Wendy Dio's doing (some odd choices from that camp, though ones I suspect RJD ultimately would have blessed given their complicated and long-standing relationship). The latter, well, I guess it costs a lot more to buy stage outfits these days. Don't want our Metal God(s) out there looking like Metal Slob(s).

Again, Dead Kennedy's had it dead to rights with "Pull My Strings." Everyone is going to be tempted by a taste of the apple; sometimes, you just take that bite later in your career (and that goes for a lot of other areas outside of music . . . but I digress).

HIM! In 1979, I saw The Dead Kennedys at the Mobuhay in San Francisco with CRIME opening. "California, Uberales"!

"I'm Governor Jerry Brown, I always . . ." Time has a way of repeating itself, Metalboy!

Biafra was, at least in the early years, the best sort of social critic-cum-artist: witty, snarky, and dead on. He was a more astute observer than even Rollins. Alas, age has--as it does--taken its toll in both cases.

I hope Nikki endorses that check straight over to The Sweet's Andy Scott, seeing as Motley pretty much stole The Sweet's "Hellraiser" note for note, to "write" Kickstart My Heart.

Yeah, Ace. I noticed that when I originally heard "Kickstart My Heart" as I have all of Sweet's stuff and been into them since I was just a kid.
