Def Leppard, 'Wings Of An Angel'

Def Leppard's new album came out just a few days ago. As expected, folks have uploaded all the tracks to YouTube. One of the standouts is "Wings Of An Angel." When I was listening to this, my husband said "They sure never stray from their sound, do they?" He was being snarky, but I didn't take it as a dig. The band knows what works for them. I love it. I'll be doing a full review of Def Leppard later this week.

I bought the CD first day, in keep my contract w/ my self to unconditionally support a band that unconditionally supported their injured drummer.

I can honestly say, "They Delivered". It's not stuffed full of ballads, most of the songs are incredibly well written, and it certainly sounds exactly like you'd expect a Def Leppard record to sound.

Aside from track 3, "Man Enough" being a blatant copycat of 2 Queen songs, "Dragon Attack & Another Bites The Dust. I still like the song.

* And this wouldn't be the first time Def Lep have pilfered from Queen, Do your self a favor & compare the song "Jealousy" - track 3 from Queen's "Jazz" LP, with DL's "LOVE" from "Sparkle Lounge... And you tell me if they are not nearly identical.

I hear ya, Ace. I was never a "huge" DL fan, but liked a lot of their music. I remember, in college, my roommate and I often discussing Rick Allen's accident and the fact that the rest of the band stayed with him. Talk about commitment! Easily, one of thee most impressive acts of love, support and determination by everyone involved. Kudos to Def Leppard. Mucho props, indeed.

I am such a huge fan of the new DL album. I can't think of one song on it that I don't like. "All Time High" is my favorite.

Ace, speaking of songs that borrow heavily from "Dragon Attack", how about Billy Squier's "Emotions in Motion?" It may not seem like it at first, but play them back-to-back.

No doubt, it's a good song, especially in the solo, but in know way does this even hold a candle to "Dangerous", released last week.

I will give "All Time High" another listen, Bob. If you like it, it's gotta be pretty damn good and certainly worth the reexamination.

Let there be no doubt, even tracks from this album deemed to be mediocre blow away anything else from the nearly the last two decades.

Killer!

I'm liking what I'm hearing from the new Def Leppard. I'll have to pick up a copy this week and give it a few spins. Even though Hysteria was the last album I liked, you still can't deny that they're great songwriters, and still a phenomenal live band.

Okay, Bob... I checked out "All Time High". They clearly knicked the intro from Sleez Beez's "Rock In The Western World" (and they probably knicked it from someone else Ace could probably name).

I still like "Dangerous" WAY better. With "Dangerous" they've cooked up a fresher sounding riff. If it borrows from anything, they're pretty much stealing from themselves, as I noted in Comments of Allyson's post on that song. \m/

Just got the whole album on Apple Music, where I am happy to pay $10 a month to acquire hundreds of tracks and albums per month, knowing the artists will be compensated.

After listening to the entire album several times, though I still like "Dangerous" the best, I gotta say, Bob, "All Time High" has really grown on me!

Couldn't agree more about them being spot-on in supporting Allen in his time of need. A lot of lesser people would have (and have) bailed on their friends in times of need. So props on that count. It was amazing to see the prototype of his after-the-crash drum kit at the Hard Rock in Vegas.

While this album, from what I have heard, suggests they have thankfully left the Sparkle Lounge (they had drinks with Load-era 'Tallica in there), it still ain't leaving me High n' Dry.

But who cares what I think? Bully for them for soldiering on and delivering the hits nowadays.

Not too bad, at all. Is it Pyromania, Hysteria, or even Adrenalize? No, its nothing like those, but its still pretty solid stuff, from an older act.
