Some Good News: Rikki Rockett Is Cancer-Free

Some good news on another morning after a horrific world news event.

Thanks to experimental immunotherapy treatment, Poison's Rikki Rockett is now cancer-free. He's been battling oral cancer for over a year. Here's hoping Rikki remains cancer-free forever.

THAT is good news! Now, let's hope Rockett winds up on a tour with POISON!

Like cancer, that is sorta' beyond his control. But I am so glad to hear that he is beating it! Great news. I hope his other businesses thrive and that he has his focus on positive things.

While many would want the obvious Poison reunion, it sucks that it is on a certain person's schedule. I might not love the band like others here do. But I certainly think that they are a sum of the parts group.

As with Perry, perhaps this might start some serious reconsideration of all the calculation that has led to mediocrity or silence, in this case. Time is too short. Do something worthy of your name. Or don't.

But it is good that another part of "our" era is healthy. In the end, that is all that matters.

That's Cool news. Cancer f@cking blows.. We buried my bro-in-law last Friday at the ripe old age of 57, after a 7 year fight. Watched it slowly grind him down. Such an insidious disease (that I'm positive will never be totally cured,as its way more lucrative to treat it than it is to cure it). If I told you the total costs of his 7 year battle you wouldn't believe me.Thank God he had a good job with great insurance. Congrats to Rikki,I hope you're cancer free now for the rest of your life to watch those little ones of yours grow old!

Ace: looks like I'm going to be in LV the weekend of October 14-17. Do you know of any good shows or concerts coming up? My brother in law and I are going to the monster energy cup Saturday night.
Thanks.

This is wonderful news. There is something the water in my neck of the woods. I can't tell you how many people close to me have been diagnosed with cancer and they have all been in their 40's-50's. Luckily, most, like Rikki, have been able to beat it, but it carries a continuous threat. My next-door neighbor, who occasionally babysits my children and invites us to swim in her pool, just got diagnosed and she is barely out of her 20's.

And, a couple of weeks ago, we buried my cousin-in-law. He was 51yo...and was given a clean bill of health and was cancer-free in March, but then it returned aggressively a few weeks later. He was the type of guy who would go out of his way to help anyone in need and actually, at my wedding (1997), it briefly rained and one of my co-workers car got stuck in the mud. She tried everything to get it out including a bunch of people trying to push it out to no avail. She was about to call AAA, when Alan noticed what was going on and before she knew it, he backed his truck up to her car, got out heavy duty rope, tied it to her bumper and extracted her car with his truck. She was so grateful and for years after she would tell me how nice a person he was. At his funeral, several people shared stories like this of him, but I shared this one on here as I was most connected to this particular act of his kindness.

Fletch, I swear to God we've (my wife and out friends) been talking about the same thing you said concerning this area (Northeastern Pennsylvania) There isn't a single person you talk with that hasn't recently lost someone, or doesn't have somebody in treatment,in hospice,or in remission that's in the 40-60 year old age bracket. Makes you wonder WTF was/is going on around here....My condolences on your loss,as he sounded like a cool guy. 😎

Gary, condolences to you and your family.

Your right, cancer may never be cured. However the profit theory conspiracy is IMO not the issue. While the costs are staggering, these costs are spread out over many beneficiaries, such as hospitals, insurance companies and Pharma. I imagine if a cure were to appear, all three of those entities I mentioned would continue to reap rewards.

Immunotherapy (using your own body to fight cancer) is a recent monster breakthrough that is just starting to reach the masses.

Also, there are cancers that the healthiest person will get and then there are cancers that feed on lifestyle dangers such as sedentary habits, diet(processed foods) alcohol and smoking.

Get the screenings recommended for your age, do your part on the lifestyle end and hope your set of genes aren't predisposed.

Peace

Sorry to hear about all of you that have lost people to cancer. Seems to touch just about everyone.

Thing is, there _is_ a cost incentive to push drugs that often are worse than the disease in the near-term. There is also the issue at the other end of the chain: recognizing that there are many more types of cancer, and many more causes as well, targeted therapy seems to hold some promise . . . but it is out of reach for most people due to costs (think Jimmy Carter's recent recovery) and/or getting on trials is a grueling process.

The human body (not putting aside environmental factors) is a lot more complicated than we had been led to assume. Every loss to cancer is a tragedy; every recovery a blessing.

Thanks Kixchix, that is he best advice anybody is going to read anywhere on the internet today, tomorrow,or forever.

Him,you also hit the nail on the head. In the end It actually wasn't the the cancer that took my bro in law, it was all the radiation and chemo treatments from all the different surgeries over the 7 years to remove his lung,a kidney, part of his bladder and a brain tumor. They basically fried his brain, for lack of a better phrase. Thanks again to everyone, and to kinda quote Neil Young concerning Mr Rockett; "Long May You Drum". 8-)

Very happy to see this news!!! Now if Bret could just put his EGO aside for one summer we could get a Poison tour ... But I'm afraid the odds are slim. Ricki has done all he can, and he and CC and Bobby deserve one more run amphitheater run me thinks!

Great post, Kixchix. Must have sent it in just as I was formulating mine (as it didn't show up when I posted). While we disagree in terms of degree, I think we agree on the basics.

Yes, words to the wise, KixChix!...

And I quote, "Also there are cancers that the healthiest person will get and then there are cancers that feed on lifestyle dangers such as sedentary habits, diet (processed foods), alcohol and smoking."
