'Fistful of Guns'

A new LA Guns retrospective package is coming soon. It's called Fistful of Guns and features all the songs you would expect plus some awesome demos from the really early days in the mid 80s. I'm definitely interested in this one.

This is being released by Cleopatra Records. So, I'm guessing all of the songs from the first couple of albums are NOT the original versions that were released when the band was with Polygram Records but rather the shitty re-recorded versions they did back in 1999 and 2000 that Cleopatra has been recycling for the past 15 years. Pass.

If that's true, Ace, what a shame.

How are things going with Actress? Inquiring minds want to know.

Correct Ace, this is a repackaging from Cleopatra.

Disc one: re-recorded hits and oddities. I don't mind he re-recorded stuff, they tune down a half step on the 1987 stuff which was originally recorded in standard tuning.

Disc 2+3: Previously released as "Hollywood Raw" in 2004... this stuff is cool to have if you are a diehard fan. Try to find the original press, it has cooler artwork. It's the demos for the first album plus a bonus disc of the first ever L.A. Guns EP with Michael Jagosz singing. Demos are cool because Phil is singing the Paul Black lyrics and melodies, and includes songs which they never released.

Thanks for the DL, Boyz. Sounds like I should get this, frisbee Disc 1 and download the other 2, then hunt out the original rarities release for posterity.

p.s. Viva Actress, Ace! Don't forget to video and record the shows!

I've got the original demo album released several years ago (Hollywood Raw), definitely worth buying if you are an LAG diehard. The Black List album featuring the Paul Black demos is really cool too.

Who's the better singer -- Paul Black or Pill Lewis?

HIM: Thank you for asking! There's a lot going on in the Actress camp!
After being invited by Randy Rhoads' sister & brother to play at the celebration of Randy's 60th Birthdy, in Burbank in December, (Which we did, and slayed!) a lot of things happened because of that show... We started getting show offers from talent buyers in other parts of the country, so we've got 4 shows in Michigan in May, (including a 5th one for the inmates at the Federal Prison !) a potential opening slot for BonJovi @ Vegas's T Mobile Arena Feb 23rd, a return to Burbank, CA on March 19th to once again play at the invitation of the Rhoads Family at the celebration of Randy's life, on the anniversary of the crash that took his life, at Darjenzio Enoteca (Randy's sister's husband;s family business) And a special midnite show on April 2nd at Elixir in Las Vegas/Henderson,NV w/ the Queens of Noise LV & I believe ex-Faster Pussycat Brent Muscat., and a handful of dates at Vamp'd Vegas, including "Classic Album Night" honoring The Scorpions' "Blackout" record. Keeping busy, and also already been recording 2 records at the same time... the 15 track "Retrospectacle" of originals & "Under the Covers" which is a batch of classic 60's,70's, & 80's tunes, which are being submitted for consideration in major motion picture soundtracks. Gonna be a busy year!

I should have remembered to include this in the previous post:

Video of Actress at Randy's Birthday Celebration, performing "Anytime You Want Me, I'll be There". One of the more obscure songs written by Randy Rhoads & Kevin DuBrow. It was one of his favorites, so we decided to honor him by playing it. Enjoy...

That is HUGE. Ace! I look forward to maybe catching ACTRESS but certainly buying those albums when they are released (very clever titles, BTW).

p.s. What do you think. Is Phil Lewis better than Paul Black or vice-versa?
January 28, 2017 | Unregistered CommenterMetalboy!
Hmm... well, seeing as I am a hardcore "Girl" fan, & good friends with their leader, Gerry Laffy, I'm gonna say Phil is the better singer.

You realize this question is the equivalent of asking if I'd rather be punched in the throat til my windpipe collapses, or having a tracheotomy? Right? Neither of them is in David Coverdale's league. ;)

*Going back to that L.A. Guns record, it's a pity nothing from the Robert Stoddard led era of the band is included. They had a pretty catchy local hit with the song ""L.A.P.D."...

Helloo

Metalboy... Phil Lewis is a lot better singer than Paul.. I have to say that i saw a tremendous show for the 25 years of L.A Guns, here in Buenos Aires, back in 2006, with Paul Black on vocals, Tracii , the son of Tracii in bass and i dont remeber the drummer.. that guy that also played for Faster Pussycat among others great L.A and hard rock bands.. But.. Paul is a great singer too, different style of course ( please listen to Sonic Boom, with Joe Dog from the Dogs D`Amour).. and Phil Lewis is the voice of L.A Guns, a really glam voice ( Girl, Torme.. The New Torpedoes.. Filthy Lucre..

Sorry Paul, but i think that Phil is a lot better singer

Regards!

Thanks, Gents. I too am s big GIRL fan. Got all the albums and a light blue 45 Picture Sleave Singl of their original version of "Hollywood Tease". I wonder if they would ever consider doing a reunion show, not under the Dheer Greed banner but as GIRL.

Holy Sh*t! I had know idea Ralph Saenz of future Steel Panther fame was the lead vocalist of L.A. Guns as documented on the 1998 CD, "Wasted"!
