Apparently Aerosmith Won't Retire Next Year...I'm Glad!

Aerosmith's Joe Perry just did an interview with the Associated Press (AP) and basically said that retirement is off the table for a few more years. In fact, the band wants to stick around until their fiftieth anniversary - which happens in 2020. (I should note that the band's self-titled debut didn't come out until 1973).

I'll admit, even though Aerosmith is my favorite band, I never put together that they've been together for nearly 50 years. I mean, my parents got married in 1973 and they've been together forever but I still never really gave much thought to Aerosmith being around just as long. The band has pretty much been a huge part of my life since my middle school days and always existed in the background for me. I guess I've taken that for granted.

What a professional accomplishment to still be playing together at their level for this long. Not very many bands can make this claim. I'm selfish and I hope they keep performing together for many years to come.

So true! They are a National Treasure. For all five of them to still be here and "together" is a minor miracle. Haven't seen them in over 10 years. May have to catch one more time if I'm able.

They should've retired 20 years ago!

Allyson, it's not uncommon for a band to take a bit of liberty when claiming an Anniversary. Remember when scorpions celebrated their 50th Anniversary two years ago? scorpions was, by no means, a real band in 1965, and their first record didn't come out until 1972, but they still claimed 2015 as their 50th. Aerosmith can do whatever works for them, but I personally have been over them for a very long time -- basically since the abomination that was "Get A grip."

LOL Gary! Just because they're famous, they think they can get by on a lick and a promise.

Now, Boyz!...

Granted, like Kixchix, I haven't seen these guys in 10 years, but they were phenomenal then, like I'm going to guess, they are now.

Whatever I may think of their newer stuff (Sorry, Bob, I started hatin' several albums before "Get A Grip" -- try ANYTHING after "Done With Mirrors"), I'm gonna bet they still got it live, especially when you see the evidence on YouTube of their most recent performances.

I suggest you go one more time before writing them off. I'm gonna bet you'll be tempted to go again, if you do.

p.s. I had the privilege of seeing Aerosmith in 1975, 1976, 1979, 1982 and 2007 and they were amazing EVERYTIME, even when I saw them without Perry when Jimmy Crespo stepped in.

I saw them on the album after the get a grip tour, and it was easily the most boring, painful concert that I've ever sat through. And I loved all of their Pump & pre Pump era stuff.

Well I'm glad they're not completely done, I still haven't seen em live so hopefully they add more dates.
Oh and Done With Mirrors is a very very underrated album.
