Is It Happening?

Let the Led Zeppelin reunion rumors fly! Robert Plant left a cryptic message on his website the other day... and people took it to mean the band was reuniting. Rumors have swirled that the band would play Desert Trip or Coachella... so it seems possible. Also, it's just about time for the 50th anniversary of Led Zep. I say bring it on!

From the Blabbermouth article, linked below:

According to The Pulse Of Radio, several industry sources have supposedly told the FeelNumb.com site that Plant — presumably the lone holdout over the past decade — has agreed to team up for the still-unannounced festival and front the band. It was widely reported that ZEP turned down a whopping $14 million to play last year's two weekend event, which featured THE ROLLING STONES, Paul McCartney, THE WHO, Bob Dylan, Roger Waters and Neil Young. Fanning the flames is the fact that Plant's official web site features a blackened page with only the white words: "Any time now..."

Oh, man... Nothing would be larger. I would probably be willing to blow a couple of pay checks to get POINT BLANK for this one (and it probably still wouldn't cover it)!!!

Every year, after the M3 festival, the organizers send out a survey asking their concert goers about their experience and to list suggestions to make the festival better. In this year's survey, the organizers recognized that next year will mark M3's 10th anniversary and added the bonus question, 'What can M3 do next year to make the 10th year anniversary extra special?" And, they requested three (3) suggestions.

I answered the survey on Monday, before I heard about this possible LZ reunion. I was feeling "extra cheeky" (as Him likes to call it) so my three suggestions were:

1) a reunited Van Halen with Michael Anthony
2) a reunited Guns 'n Roses with Izzy and Adler
3) a reunited Led Zeppelin

a boy can dream, can't he?

I imagine it being a one off or a handful of four dates if it happens. Hopefully I'm wrong, this would be HUGE.

Heere's what will happen, IF it happens.

A: They'll make a Huge paycheck.

B: The promoters will make ticket prices unbelievable, and get what they're asking.

&

C: The actual results will disappoint, as Robert can't sing the way he did 30+ years ago.

Ace, I agree on all fronts, however, the reunion in 2007 at London's O2 Arena, from which the "Celebration Day" documentary sprang, demonstrated both he AND Page can pull it off.

Granted, the concert, a one-off tribute to Atlantic Records founder, Ahmet Ertegun -- the man who signed them -- occurred nearly 10 years years ago, they pulled it off. And they did it by rehearsing, rehearsing, rehearsing!

Yes, Plant sang in a lower register, but his voice sounded far from shot like Don Dokken or David Coverdale. And Page sounded amazing, like he actually bothered to listen to all the old records over and over again to relearn his songs.

One can only think the show was also motivated by the need to set the record straight, as it were, since their previous reunions had been so shabby. To paraphrase Plant's question, "Does anyone remember laughter?", during his performance of "Stairway to Heaven" in their earlier concert film, "The Song Remains The Same", "Does anyone remember Live Aid and the Atlantic Records 40th Anniversary celebration?" Both of Led Zeppelin's performances at those events were broadcast live worldwide, leaving millions of viewer's jaws dropped by how horrible they were.

Though they somewhat redeemed themselves when Plant and Page toured in 1998, it was the 2007 reunion which resonated as a real comeback. If they can come close to matching their last performance together for this reunion, if it happens, it will be an event to rival World War III!!!

As Jeff quite simply stated in his comment above, it "would be EPIC"!!!

I just do not get the hype over them. For me, they are one of THE most overrated bands in the history of music.

While writing this, listening to Sirius Radio, I just heard Bon Jovi's Never Say Goodbye and Kid Rock's All Summer Long. that being said...

growing up on the outskirts of Philly, me and my buddies would get 2 six packs from this Chinese restaurant that didn't ID me. Another friend would invariably have a dimebag. We would grab a boom box, grab some girls, head over to the reservoir, light a small campfire, and then fight over which cassette tape went into the player. Choices: Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, The Doors or Aerosmith, pre-1986 (I was the only one into post 1986). I wonder which band I would insist upon? It was all good.

Overrated? Never. And, I'm still in semi-touch with 3/4 of 'em.

Exactly what fletch said. Only it was a shit hole dive bar that didn't card any of us up here because the guy who owned it was about 88 years old a didn't give a rats ass. (RIP Mr Taylor you were one cool old dude)

Call it Karma, but for as many old bluesmen that Page ripped off,and there were quite a few, that's how many of the bands that we love in turn ripped off Zeppelin. Tell me with a straight face that Whitesnake isn't Zeppelin light. Close your eyes and listen to Still Of The Night and tell me David Covedale isn't emulating Robert Plant. ( Along with pretty much every falsetto'd vocalist of the entire era) I can also assure you there isn't a drummer from the era that will not list a certain John Bonham as a huge influence. Guy set the blueprint for every hard rock drummer to follow. Man was an absolute beast....

Gary: Simply my humble opinion...I don't think that the owner of that dive bar or the owners of that Chinese restaurant, "didn't give a shit and said fuck you to society to their rules. Instead, they might not have known any better, thought to fuck it, or any combination thereof." In my situation I took advantage of their willingness to help out, then coupled with rockin' good times that rubber-stamped the cajones I dropped into my sack, made me get a fake ID that ultimately gave me my moniker.

who knows? I'm stoned. (an euphamisn for having balls).
