Sammy Hagar Sunday!

A cold Sunday is a perfect day for Sammy Hagar! Just listening to the red rocker makes me think of Cabo, the sun and tequila. Here's hoping Sammy plays some festivals this summer - either as a solo act or with Chickenfoot. I haven't seen Chickenfoot live, but I know Sammy's shows with the Wabos are a big party. Here are some of my favorite Sammy clips.

"Give to Live."

"Little White Lie"

"Mas Tequila"

The week ahead on Bring Back Glam! will be a big one. I'll reveal the top 10 Glam releases of 2009, look back on the best metal of the past decade and rip apart Rolling Stone's weak attempt at a "best of 00's" issue. See you tomorrow!

Ally, I know you posted this for me since you know Sammy is my alltime #1 Man (ha ha). i'm gaga over a lot of bands and musicians but noone holds a candle to Sammy. March, 1995 was a pivotal moment in my life b/c I saw Van Halen for the first time live and heard Eagles Fly during Sammy's solo moment. WELL, my life was forever changed from that moment on. So, yes, I cam in late in the game (considering Montrose debut record came out in 1974) but I guarantee I've made up for lost time since 1995. I could go on and on and on about my love for the Red Rocker from Montrose to Solo to Van Hagar, back to Solo and now currently Chickenfoot. I love it ALL and THEN some! I'm in a clip of the mas tequila video that was filmed in 1997 (if you blink you miss it, around the 1:00 min mark, but in slow motion is pretty damn funny).
And speaking of Cabo, if you haven't been, make plans to GO! Just as the song says "you go there once, you'll be there twice" I've only been four times and yes, it's not enough (all times for Sammy's annual birthday bash) but I'm hoping to make October 2010 my fifth trip! Cabo is my Heaven on Earth, my Happy Place. Anyone ever wanting to talk Sammy look me up, I'll talk up some sammy all day and night if I can.

There's Only One Way To Rock, and that's the RED ROCKER!

I was just gonna say, Kari, before reading your comments, that "There's Only One Way To Rock" is my all time fave of Sammy Hagar's stuff.

What the h*ll, Al, now I gotta go check that out on YouTube, since ya didn't post it here. Speaking of which, there may be that great clip of Van Halen fronted by Sammy at the first FarmAid Concert posted on YouTube, where they trot out "There's Only One Way To Rock" with Eddie just shredding it to shreds! Killer. The first time I saw it was on MTV live. Jaw dropping!

Can't get as ga-ga as you, Kari, over Sammy, but I do appreciate your enthusiasm as I can get ga-ga over certain performers myself, as some may have noticed here previously. That said, Sammy's got quite a cannon of great material. That Montrose stuff is beyond killer. Check out Montrose burnin' it up on those two Burt Sugarman's Midnight Special clips on YouTube from '74 and '75. The guy looked less weird and has the total glam hair thing down. Plus guitarist, Montrose himself, just burns!

Even though Hagar is a bit doofiastic looking and has been for quite awhile, we can't take away from the fact that he's got a killer set of chops. And he's still at it with his supergroup, Chickenfoot. Though not my personal cup o' tea, I can appreciate it for what it is and I am glad to see it so successful. Sammy must also be commended for his incredible songwriting talent...

Gotta love Sammy. Guy just seems to genuinely enjoy himself on stage.Saw him on the Standing Hampton tour waaay back in the early 80's.He tore up the place! Guy definitely has a set of pipes on him, and writes catchy, hook filled tunes. Heavy Metal (from the movie of the same name) is a monster riff,as are There's Only One Way To Rock and Mas Tequila. The guy is still at it at 62 years old with Chickenfoot, and still kickin' ass!

I love the comments posted! I'm so jealous of those of you who got to experience early Sammy and especially all those great Van Hagar years. I think if there was ever a show I could have experienced it would have been the Texas Jamm days! WOW! I would have given anything to see the shows when Sammy used to have the Trans Am up on stage. WOW!

Yeah, I gotta say Sammy doing Eagles Fly acoustic on a VH tour is one of my all time favorite live performances. Love that whole solo album. I am a proud Van Hagar fan and always will be. Love his lyrics, his singing and his live show always delivered.
Might have to go facedown in Cabo one day...
