Another Tour Announcement: STYX, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Tesla

STYX, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Tesla are going on tour together this summer. This is a good package, but I'm not sure all the individual fan groups necessarily cross-over, so it's a good chance for folks to see a new band live. STYX is a great live band and the headliner here. Should be fun. You going? Tickets on sale next Friday at Live Nation.

Last year I spent way too much $$ to see 35 minutes of TESLA, but at least enjoyed the other bands on bill.
This year's package I would not be inclined stick around after TESLA for the other bands.
And I say that as a person who will, yet again, be catching Steve Miller and Peter Frampton this summer. If it ain't broke . . .
Honestly, Tesla makes no sense being the opener for these 2. And it sucks, because that keeps them doing 6-8 song opening gig rotation. Signs, Love Song, Modern Day, Heaven's Trail, etc.. BOOOO ! Yes the classic rockers in the audience listening to Styx will be like oh yeah... Tesla, they kind of rock !
It gets preached on here to go see your bands live before they are gone ? Well not if its the same schtick (ALA - Bret and Posion). These groups are celebrating anniversary's of incredible albums that should be played live for the first time ? Or the first time since ?
Just incredibly the wrong opener for Styx/Joan Jett. Both sides of this deserve better. Was Kansas busy ? :)
That being said I'll go see Poison/Cheap Trick and maybe Def Leppard/Journey because I know it'll be a fun show. I'll pass on this one though, I have no desire to see Styx.
DJ! I will also be seeing those shows! Back to back double bills that are actually GOOD!
Farn: I'm still baffled.
Rush, REO Sh*twagon, Jourmey, Styx, Triumph, INXS, Pearl Spam, Joe Buttanomma, TeslUGH!, Eddie Chump = BAD
Beatles, Zeppelin, Stones, Who, Kinks, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Cheap Trick, Guns N‘ Roses, Motlëy Crüe, Poison, Cinderella, RATT, Dokken, KIX, Wildside, Junkyard, Bulletboys, Roxx Gang, Vain, Dokken, L.A. Guns, The Cult, Nirvana, Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Damned, The Dickies, Crash Diet, Lester Bangs = GOOD
As I’ve said before, aside from TeslUGH’s slim catalogue (4 1/2 tunes) of decent but predictable “songs”, my complaints about them has nothing to do with me. You can disrespect me all you want but as soon as you mistreat others — audience members, people in the service industry, act like a self entitled a*shole when people in the REAL world have barely heard of you, you can kindly f*ck off ..
Incident 1: I witnessed Hammon interrupt a maitré d in the Sushi restaurant on the first Shiprocked! (before they f*cked that up — well, except for having TeslUGH! on it!) to ask if he could be seated at another table “because I’m a musician and I might be seen in the window” ...
Meanwhile, Vince Neil and Dana Strum come in with their dates, SEAT THEMSELVES by the window and could care less as people are walking by, fans going on about their business, heading to the next show. No one’s gawking or stopping at the window or anything.
But, oh no, Hammon’s a VIP, interrupts the maitré d seating other guests ... Just f*cking move to a different table yourself, a*shole. The frickin’ restaurant’s half empty and the maitré d’a busy with other customers, otherwise known as regular people!
BTW, a year later, on the first MORC, Hammon ACTUALLY tried to buy me drinks as I was hanging with the promoters at the upper deck outside bar. I POLITELY excused myself to have a drink with Chip Z’Nuff and Eric Brittingham, “musicians” who are COOL!
Incident 2: Faster Pussycat were well into their set playing the aft lounge a couple of years later on a MORC. The place was packed to the gills and in saunters Jeff Kieth with two security people and has them force audience members to move out of the way so his royal highness can get a better view. What a TOOL!
But, hey, at least TeslUGH! is good for two things — I can take naps in my stateroom or stay drinking on the VIP deck and skip seeing them whenever they’re playing. The other good thing is I get a read out on people who actually like these frickin’ borefests.
Thank you for accepting this suggestion.
I forgot some others that belong in the GOOD pile ...
AC/DC, Aerosmith (nothing after “Draw the Line”, except 5 songs), Judas Priest, KISS, Bad Company, Starz, New York Dolls, Alice In Chains, Accept, Great White, Kingdom Come, Lizzy Borden, Dirty Looks, Dangerous Toys, Hardcore Superstar.
And a few more for the BAD pile. Though there are SO many more, I have a hard time thinking of them as my brain just blocks them out ... Loserboy, Mr. Small, Extreme, Dave Mathpews, Food Biters.
And Iron Maiden into the BAD!
Frank Hannon asks a maitré d to be seated at a different table and he's automatically a self-entitled asshole. But the very same Frank Hannon tries to buy you drinks and you excuse yourself to leave? It sounds like Frank was trying to be cool there, so you can't have it both ways.
Everyone can have a bad day or bad moment, especially a rock musician over the course of a 30+ year career. Nobody can be "on" 24/7 with every single fan in ever single social situation.
BTW - thanks for publishing that definitive list of which bands are "good" and which bands are "bad". I will adjust my CD collection and playlist accordingly.
And you can't rip on both great trios from Canada at the same time. Just not cool. In the words of those deep thinkers, the McKenzie Brothers: "Take Off, Eh!"
