Estate of Chris Cornell Releases His Cover Of 'Patience'

Today would have been Chris Cornell's 56th birthday. To celebrate his memory, the estate of Cornell has released his cover of the Guns n' Roses classic "Patience." One of my absolute favorite GnR tunes, this is a special cover to me. In fact, it is pretty incredible. The song was produced and mixed by Brendan O'Brien.

Cornell's estate released this statement:

"It is true a man is not dead while his name is still spoken… and, through his art, an artist's soul still burns just as bright as ever upon all those that look up to him and his memory. Releasing music that was special to Chris keeps a part of him here with us — his heart and his soul. His love and his legacy."

I always liked whatever hits Cornell had that I would casually hear and not really pay attention to. I never fully appreciated his output and talent till after he passed away sadly, but now looking back I can definately appreciate everything a lot more. Patience is one of my favorite GNR songs too and I really love this cover, made it his own.

Absolutely loved Soundgarden, up through King Animal. And I hope some of those tracks they were working on when he died see the light of day (if the band and his ex can work things out).

Cornell was an artist who took risks when he worked outside the confines of Soundgarden. Granted, I didn't like all--even most--of those efforts. But that doesn't really matter. I respect him for trying new things. This is a good cover. Like Dj says, he takes a song that is well known and makes it something different.

I wish he was still making music.

That voice - what a talent - gone too soon. The voice give me chills listening to the song.
