Motley Crue Announce Hollywood 'Takeover'

This was rumored for awhile but now it is apparently fact: Motley Crue will do a Hollywood takeover and play some of the iconic rock clubs in the area.

There is a charity aspect here so that is good.

The poster below is just wrong though - using the original graphics and having John 5 in one of the squares? Crazy.

Kendrick Lamar Is The Super Bowl Entertainment This February

He's huge so I get it: Kendrick Lamar will play the coveted Super Bowl halftime show in February. I am not sure how he exactly appeals to all masses, but maybe he does. I prefer him to country, that's for sure. Also, maybe he will collaborate with a rock act on the big stage.

We always talk about the SB halftime spectacle every year, so here we are yet again. I feel like the announcement was a little earlier than normal.

Also, the Bengals were trash yesterday, so there's that. Onward and happy Monday.

30 Seconds Of 'Unfinished'

Drummer Alex Van Halen will release his book Brothers on October 22. Along with that book is a full, previously unheard Van Halen brothers track. In fact, the track is the last one that Alex and Eddie ever worked on together. It is called "Unfinished" and the 30 second teaser is honestly very emotional.

There is no denying "Unfinished" is Van Halen - the song sounds like it would fit on Balance, 5150 or even 1984. We will have to see how the entire song pans out, but I am thinking it will be a slower track throughout with less flash than most Eddie Van Halen tracks.

I can't wait to read Brothers and now I'm really excited to hear this new Van Halen music, too.

Also, happy first NFL Sunday of the season to all who celebrate!

Motley Crue 35th Anniversary 'Dr. Feelgood' Set Announced

Coming out November 22, Motley Crue will release a special 35th anniversary Dr. Feelgood box set. The vinyl set is $200 and available for pre-order on Amazon and other websites. The set includes:

Limited Edition green/black 3 LP boxset remastered version of the original album, as well as rare demos and live tracks. Also featured is a 24-page replica tour book with never-before-seen and previously unpublished live and behind-the-scenes photos, a replica Dr. Feelgood Tour itinerary, poster, patch, backstage pass, live show handbill, press kit, medical envelope and guitar pick.

I have to say, I don't need to spend $200 on this but I know a lot of folks will. The package does look cool, but that's a lot of money for a package that was also a special release five years ago. The 30th anniversary set includes things like a medical bag and playing cards. I don't think the vinyl was remastered then (not sure why exactly), so that is the argument to get the new 35th edition set I guess.

David Gilmour, 'Luck and Strange' Out Now

This is not a drill! David Gilmour's new release Luck and Strange is out now. I can't wait for work to be over today so I can give the album a proper listen. I'm getting excited about the show in a couple months too! I will never see Pink Floyd live, but David's show will be a close substitute!

New Richie Kotzen Music Out Today!

Guitarist Richie Kotzen is back with a video for his song “Insomnia.” The track is on his upcoming release Nomad due later this month. He’s also going on tour across the USA.

I never expected to see Richie in his jammies, in a music video or otherwise, but here we are. “Insomnia” is a great track – very throwback to some of Kotzen’s earlier efforts. Love the heavy guitar riff in the opening and the growly voice and then those soaring high notes! So good. There's a reason this guy is one of my all time faves.

Nomad is available on CD and vinyl.

Brian May Recovering From Small Stroke

Well, this is upsetting. Queen guitarist Brian May announced earlier today that he is recovering from a "small" stroke. He wasn't able to use his left arm after the incident last week but apparently things are better for him now.

“The good news is that I can play guitar,” May says in the video below. He called the stroke a "health hiccup" and notes that he is resting now. He isn't allowed to drive or fly or do anything strenuous. I wish him a full recovery!
