I’ve been meaning to write a review of the new Imminence album Axis Mundi for a week now. I just haven’t had time to sit down and do it. Well, today Sonic Temple announced that Imminence would be at this year’s festival (!) and I took that as a sign to get this done.

Imminence is a Swedish metalcore (violincore?) band. Axis Mundi is the band’s first release for Sumerian Records, but they’ve been together and releasing music since 2009. Axis Mundi is the band’s sixth album.

The new album came out October 2, and it is already rising to the top of my “favorite of the year” list. I don’t skip tracks while listening to Axis Mundi, but my favorites are probably “The Sword That Never Bends,” “Devil May Try,” “False Light” and especially “Crestfallen.” In fact, Crestfallen is battling Bring Me The Horizon’s “Dehumanized” for my favorite track of 2026.

Axis Mundi is deliciously heavy, but it has so many melodic moments that folks who don’t like screaming lyrics will find something to enjoy. Again, see “Crestfallen.” It’s just a truly beautiful song. The violin work across the album is wonderful, but especially so on “Crestfallen.”

“False Light” will be so fun to see live, and I can’t wait to scream the lyrics. I know my coworkers are already sick of hearing Axis Mundi because it’s been on nonstop repeat since release day. Before that, I was listening to early-release singles and the band’s older output on repeat.

Go listen to “God Fearing Man” or “The Black” if you want to check out older tracks.

Axis Mundi is totally a 4-star album for me.
