Bret Comments On Tour Cancellation

Type 1 diabetes is no joke, and Bret Michaels has lived with it for just about his entire life. He addresses the disease in the first sentence of the section I pasted below. He’s on new (I’ll assume more) medication now, too. Bret also specifically mentions the Mountain Music Festival and promises to play it either next summer or the one after.

As you know, I always choose victory over being a victim to my disease. I truly felt I would be able to do all these shows in spite of the recent health domino effect that has occurred. I was truly upset that I could not play The Mountain Music Festival as I love the fans, the outdoors and Tennessee. And I vow to return in ‘27 or ‘28 and make it the best show ever, plus I wanted to see the rumored BearSquatch & rock with so many great bands, fans and crew.

Bret collapsed on stage at Madison Square Garden in 1987 from insulin shock. That’s when he publicly disclosed his diabetes. He was nearly decapitated during the Tony Awards in 2009 when part of the staging came down on top of him. Bret had a stroke and brain hemorrhage in 2010, which nearly killed him. He had heart surgery in 2011. Bret was treated by paramedics in 2014 for extremely low blood sugar during a show in New Hampshire. Then he was hospitalized for a week in July after kidney stone surgery. The aftereffects of that - and lack of proper rest - contributed to this latest tour cancellation.

Honestly, reading that list of health issues and mishaps, you have to give it to Bret Michaels. Dude is an alley-cat-level fighter. Truly metal.
