‘Guitar World’ Makes Some Motley News

Guitar World writer Damon Orion has an interview out now with Jonathan Little, owner of an audio gear company.

Little worked Motley Crue’s Shout at the Devil sessions. He says he contributed to the album by adding guitar frills and Mick Mars was very cooperative. I believe this happened. Studio collaboration is the norm.

Now, the next hunk of the interview is wild:

The late Geoff Workman’s experience with Mars was less pleasant, according to Little. ‘Geoff was getting frustrated with Mick[’s performances]. He claimed to me that he would take the tapes to [Toto keyboardist] David Paich’s place, which was called Hog Manor, and overdub his own guitar tracks [in place of Mars’]. Not even the band knew about it.’

I’m sorry, but I just can’t believe that Mick Mars didn’t play guitar on Shout. He was the best musician of the group, especially during this time period. Mick obviously knew - and does know - his way around the fretboard. There are so many allegations of what amounts to fraud surrounding both Motley and the Shout era. At this point, it all just seems absurd.
