Just Another Thing To Hate

Oh look, another warning about our dystopian future. Breaking Rust is an AI-created country artist. The song is now apparently atop the Billboard country digital sales chart with the song “Walk My Walk.”

There are all sorts of reasons why this is bad. Synthetically created music will never generate the emotion and authenticity of that created by an actual human.

How do you even go see one of these AI acts in concert? The answer is you don’t.

An entertainment reporter named Kelley L. Carter told ABC News, “AI artists won't require things that a real human artist will require, and once companies start considering it and looking at bottom lines, I think that's when artists should rightly be concerned about it."

Of course, the top “required thing” is money and that goes above cold, hard cash. It is also the money required to hire a team of publicists, marketers, managers, tour bus drivers, the whole shebang. When everything is a cheap (free?), fast commodity, then nothing has real value. If creating music itself for joy and expression has no intrinsic value anymore, then what’s the point?

AI “artists” will just continue to rise, and we’ll keep on gazing through the looking glass and wondering why we’re never getting another White album. No, this transition won’t happen overnight, but it’s still something to watch closely and think about while you wait for Poison to actually announce a 2026 tour.
