Oh Hi, New GnR Music

A little late, but better than never from these guys. Guns n’ Roses dropped two new tracks today. They are called “Nothin’” and “Atlas.” Yeah, it’s 2025. No need to check your calendar.

I have to say, the way “Nothin’” starts is definitely nothing I expected from Guns. But let the track play a little and get to Slash’s solo and then you’re like, “there it is.” That classic GnR swagger, complete with Axl Rose’s high pitched wails. But that solo, though. Seriously it’s so bluesy. Slash outdid himself. No, this doesn’t sound like Appetite for Destruction era GnR, but we’re not there anymore and the band lineup isn’t the same anyway. You can hear that Chinese Democracy vibe here pretty clearly. “Nothin’” is way better than I expected it to be.

If “Nothin’” was all about Slash’s solo, then “Atlas” is where Duff McKagan and his bass get to shine. The chorus is catchy here, too. The guitar solo on this one is fast and aggressive. Sort of like “You Could Be Mine” even. To me, “Atlas” sounds late 90s. The song’s been around as a demo forever, so that’s probably why.

Of the two, I like “Nothin’” more I think. I can see it becoming a tour staple. I’m not so sure about “Atlas” but I’m glad the official version is finally out and Axl can cross that off his to-do list. I hate having unfinished projects hanging over my head.
