That One Time Ozzy Covered Mountain
The other day, I was riding in the car with Eric and I noticed that Liquid Metal was doing their “versus” hour, where a metal artist (typically) covers a non-metal track. This is always interesting, so I sat on the station and Ozzy Osbourne vs. Mountain came on. Now I love the song “Mississippi Queen.” Like, who doesn’t? But I honestly have no recollection of Ozzy covering the song.
Back in 2005, Ozzy released an album called Under Cover. It’s a work of… all cover tunes. Other songs on the album include “Sympathy for the Devil,” “Rocky Mountain Way” and “Working Class Hero.”
Listening to the cover was a whole new experience for me. The track is good and very true to the original with that extra bit of Ozzy darkness. Mountain’s Leslie West guested on the track, doing some guitar duties. That’s extra special because he also wrote the song. This isn’t your typical Ozzy album so I doubt many would count it as a fave but I enjoy a good cover tune and “Mississippi Queen” made me happy. A great song for summer.
