Bret Demands More Cash And Now There’s No Poison Tour
By now you’ve probably read the reports that Poison drummer Rikki Rockett explained in a recent interview that the reason there is no summer tour announcement is because of money. Not that the band wasn’t offered a fair amount to tour - because apparently they were -but that singer Bret Michaels demanded 600% more of the tour cash than the rest of the three guys in the band.
That is insane.
Poison is a quartet, and they got famous by creating a unique look and sound together. In 1988, it wasn’t “Bret Michaels and Poison” - it was just Poison, and that’s the way it should be. Bret needs to realize he’s rich and famous today because of the brand he created with the other three members of Poison 40 years ago. The songs the band released in the 80s gave Bret a firm legacy to stand on, and he branched out into other entertainment and merchandising opportunities.
It’s a shame we won’t have a proper 40th anniversary celebration this year due to greed, but that's just the way it is. I don’t fault the other members of the band for balking at Bret’s demand. Why should they do the hard labor of touring and get hardly anything in return? It’s absurd. A Poison summer tour would have done well, in that I have no doubt. Their music is tailor-made for summer fun - and I think people would have readily bought up reasonably priced tickets. Plus, there’s all that merchandise money too.
All of that is down the drain.
For his part, Rikki Rockett is going to perform all of Look What The Cat Dragged In on some upcoming Rockett Mafia shows. That’s something at least.
