Thinking of Sharon
As the tributes to Ozzy Osbourne’s life and legacy continue to roll in from every corner of the music world and associated fandoms, I can’t help but think of Sharon Osbourne today.
Sharon and Ozzy were married for decades and seemingly true partners in all facets of their life together, especially in business. Even in the darkest parts of their marriage – and there was plenty of drugs, alcohol and affairs – they managed to stay together, somehow.
I’m sure Ozzy’s kids are devastated at the loss of their father, but I bet no one is more bewildered than Sharon. This loss must feel like a piece of her own body is gone. She’s endured endless criticism for her business style and acumen. The same people criticizing her would probably praise a man for acting the same, but I digress.
In the end, we have to acknowledge Sharon’s smarts in keeping Ozzy and his music around for us for so long. As a manager, she knew how to reinvent his career and rode all the changing waves of metal.
Even impossible, I always sort of thought Ozzy would be around forever, just in the background somewhere. I bet Sharon felt that way too.
