Firefest takes place in Nottingham, England and is set for October 30 - 31. That's right: the festival is nine months away and promoters are already announcing bands. The fest is shaping up to be pretty cool, too - lots of Glam!
NELSON JIMI JAMISON PRETTY MAIDS STRANGEWAYS STAGE DOLLS NEWMAN GRAND DESIGN
Seriously? Saraya? This is a reunion show for the band. Lead singer Sandi Saraya's been in retirement for awhile. Even more impressive is that the reunion is really of the original members - fantastic! I'd love to see that show for sure.
I was surprised to learn Nelson has never played the UK before. I guess Nelson is deep into the festival circuit now.
Bangalore Choir will play all of On Target during their set.
If I'm reading the official website correctly, tickets go on sale today and the price includes an early bird discount if you go ahead and purchase now. Maybe when I win the lottery...
Hot on the heels of their first-ever Grammy win, metal gods Judas Priest will be featured on 'Behind the Music: Remastered.' The special series airs on VH1 Classic and features some of the biggest names in rock and metal. Tonight, Saturday February 13 at 10pm ET, the program focuses on Priest.
If you've ever seen any episode of 'Behind the Music,' then you know everything is examined, from the band's history, to drug problems, to scandals and all the highs and lows in-between.
Tomorrow's episode includes interviews with lead singer Rob Halford, Glenn Tipton, KK Downing, Ian Hill, Scott Travis and former Judas Priest singer Tim 'Ripper' Owens. While Judas Priest has already been the focus of a 'Behind the Music' episode, the remastered edition picks up over the last ten yeas or so, chronicling the band's reunion with Halford, new albums, recent tours and more.
G'day from down under, Glam fans! Hansel is a relatively new, unsigned band from Australia and boy are they Glam! I'm pretty sure the guys in the band are serious but the video clip for "Murder 101" sort of has parody written all over it. I think it's that nu-Glam complexity of mixing modern Buckcherry with classic Dokken and coming out looking a little like Steel Panther. At any rate, the tunes on the band's debut Never Say Die are quite infectious - definitely something I know most - if not all - of you will dig.
The song names are crazy. In addition to "Murder 101" there are tunes like "The Whole Nine Yards," "Vampire" and "1-800-Pleasuretown" - yeah. I mean, does it get any better?
It seems like there's a lot of gloom and doom in metal these days and that's fine: life isn't all kittens and lollipops. Then again, there's not a damn thing wrong with being happy and I sure as heck would rather hear a party anthem than something lame, and this is where Hansel delivers. I'd love to attend a Hansel concert!
You know what else? While the song titles are cheesy they really have rhythm! Yes, there's rock here! If you check out Never Say Die and want some more Hansel, you can check out their EP, Mission to Rock released in 2008.
The track list for Never Say Die:
1. I Don’t Need Saving (All I Need Is Rock ‘N’ Roll) 2. Eruption 3. Rock City 4. On The Run 5. Wild Tonight 6. Rocketship of Love 7. Between A Rock and a Hard Place 8. Vampire 9. Murder 101 10. 1-800-Pleasuretown 11. The Whole Nine Yards
Today is the 30th anniversary of Bon Scott's death. The AC/DC front man certainly left a legacy and cadre of fans. Post Scott, AC/DC became the biggest rock band in the world with Back in Black, a tribute to their fallen friend. There are news stories all over the Internet about fan tributes and memorials. I'll just leave you with this video clip of "Jailbreak."
Alert! This is not a Glam post. Rather, it's a post about a modern band I love: Bullet For My Valentine. The band is coming back soon with a new album called Fever and they recently gave away an album track "Begging for Mercy" free via Tweet. Or something like that. I just waited for the song to hit YouTube and then I listened.
Anyway, here's the clip so check it out. I know some of you guys dig this band. I've seen Bullet For My Valentine live before - but I'm still looking forward to them and Slash the most at Rock on the Range. Check out "Begging for Mercy" and give me your opinion. Don't worry - more Glam tomorrow!
The official release:
New York, NY- Hard rock band Bullet For My Valentine returns with its third Jive album, Fever, on April 27. The official first single, the blistering “Your Betrayal” impacts at radio on March 9, with a video to follow shortly.
Fever pairs Bullet For My Valentine with producer Don Gilmore, best known for his work with Linkin Park and Good Charlotte. The Welsh band—vocalist/guitarist Matt Tuck, guitarist Michael Paget, bassist Jason James and drummer Michael Thomas--recorded Fever in studios both in its native Wales and Los Angeles The album follows 2008’s Scream Aim Fire, which debuted at No. 4 on The Billboard 200, a career high for the group, whom Kerrang! named Best British Band in both 2008 and 2009. It seems as if the Rocklahoma promoters will announce the 2010 lineup Monday. Each year, we always make a list of predictions, so why break tradition at this point? Remembering AEG is involved now and a press release from a few months ago stated the fest would be adding modern acts, here's my choices for bands that might be playing in 2010. When the official lineup is announced, I'll post it here.
My (perhaps overly optimistic) guesses:
Airbourne ZZ Top Vince Neil .38 Special Styx REO Speedwagon Lynyrd Skynyrd Cinderella Crooked X Slaughter Dangerous Toys Keel Gypsy Pistoleros Buckcherry Big Cock Wildside Bang Tango Clutch Hinder Yngwie Malmsteen The Last Vegas Vains of Jenna TUFF Michael Monroe Black Tide W.A.S.P. Steel Panther Accept Doro Firehouse
Rocklahoma is set for May 28-30 in Pryor, Oklahoma. Tickets are not yet on general sale.
"We never rule out anything, especially if we can get direct flights! If other things get tabled, we all have passports and wouldn’t rule out any reasonable solid offer."
That’s what bassist Mark Schenker of Kix told me yesterday when I asked him if the band would be playing more European dates this summer. Kix will play their first Scandinavian performance ever as part of the Stockholm Rock Out. That festival runs April 30 - May 1, 2010.
I talked to Mark about the Stockholm festival for Noisecreep but felt like I’d share the best part with you guys. After all, we’ve all been together a long time and we ‘get it,’ you know?
So here’s a direct question and transcription:
BBG!: Can we expect a full-fledged Kix tour this summer in America (with, *cough* Cinderella perhaps)? MS: "We are playing M3 Festival in Columbia, MD with Cinderella and Scorpions - we are really looking forward to that, it’s home turf for us and we are excited to see the other bands. We have not been asked yet, but Kix and Cinderella would be a simply smashing ticket for hard rock fans. Seriously, who wouldn’t want to see Cinderella? When we played Rocklahoma the year before last, we saw Fred [Coury, Cinderella drummer] play with Lynch Mob and he is just a terrific player and was great to watch. I heard third party that Tom Keifer is singing better than ever which is very exciting news, so if some shows are offered, or a string of dates are offered, I would say we would have to seriously consider it."
In case you’re wondering, Kix hasn't played Europe since just after the Blow My Fuse tour. That means right around 1990 or so. In my Noisecreep article, you’ll read about why the Kix boys are so excited to play Sweden, what they hope to see there and also some inside info on that new live album I exclusively told you about way back in September of 2008.
