Warden Threw a Party in the County Jail...

elvis_presley_on_stage.jpgIt was 30 years ago today that Elvis died.

For many, the jury is still out on Elvis' death. A coroner's report determined that Elvis died from a heart attack. Others point to prolonged drug use. No matter the cause, the life and death of Elvis remain an obsession for many.

Elvis is the only performer to be inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, Country Music Hall of Fame and the Gospel Music Hall of Fame.

The star recorded some of the most popular songs in history. Many of those songs have been famously covered by other musicians.

My favorite Elvis song is "Jailhouse Rock" from the 1957 movie of the same name.

Turns out, notorious glam bands like Elvis, too. In 1990, Motley Crue performed "Jailhouse Rock" with special guests Tom Keifer of Cinderella and Sebastian Bach and Snake Sabo of Skid Row. It's a pretty cool - and rare - clip.

Tell me, what are your thoughts on the King of Rock n' Roll?

Elvis is a legend, and his legacy/influence will live on forever.
That is a really cool video of Bach & Neil doing that song! Motley Crue also does a cover of is on their "Girls Girls Girls" album.

aXe mAn,

Do you like the "Jailhouse Rock" cover? I think it's ok.

Since the the Motley video is from 1990, that means the band performed this during a Dr. Feelgood tour. It struck me as an odd choice, but I guess it's a song all the musicians were familiar with.

Yeah, I think the "Jaihouse Rock" cover is ok. But I agree, it is kind of an odd choice...

I'd guess that the clip is from the anti drug shows they did in Russia, given that it's got other folks on stage, it could be the all star jam at the end ?

I thought the cover on girls, girls, girls was kind of lame. As a kid, I got into music listening to my mothers Elvis and Beatles records, I don't mind Elvis, but I sure don't own any. Elvis to me was just another guy with a good voice, good songwriters, and a good marketing department. I prefer artists who write their own songs.
