Glam Halloween?

We're midway through October - it's time to start thinking about Halloween. I'm going as a devil this year. Of all my costumes (and I have a strict "no repeat" rule), I've never been a devil. I had half the costume at home - and I made the other half. I didn't feel like it was responsible to buy something real expensive this year.

I spend a lot of time thinking about Halloween. It's my favorite holiday. I mean, it makes sense. Halloween is, after all, Metal. You get to dress up as something scary. You go to parties. You gorge on chocolate.

I tried to think of a Glam costume, but it's harder for a woman. I did toy with the idea of making my husband Slash - and I would be Axl, but I just didn't have the kilt! I thought about Lita Ford...but I don't think anyone would get it these days.

To a large extent, I think the 80s are back in fashion. When I was browsing at a costume shop I saw an entire section dedicated to the 80s. There was a Madonna ("Like a Virgin" era) costume, a Michael Jackson (one glove era) costume and Metal rocker dude costume. The Metal costume featured black and white zebra pants! I did suggest to my husband that he get that costume so we could go as David Coverdale and Tawny Kitaen. Perhaps someday.

Do you have any good Glam costume ideas?

hmmmm well, unluckily for me i'm going to centre parks that day with my friend, which should be fun, but it means i'll miss getting wasted at all the parties. I as gonna go as the joker, from The Dark Knight? I had the purple jacket and everything.

Costumes work well when they're non-specific, especially if you're not being something popular for that year (The Joker, Batman etc.).

Just putting together a pair of leggings, cowboy boots, a ripped vintage t-shirt, a bunch of chains bracelets and getting a long wig or the 80's Rocker wig that is everywhere and you're pretty much good to go.

Bret Michaels would be a great costume this year with Rock of Love. Extra points if you can find the 6 or 7 half-dressed girls to follow you around.

I'm a rock star about every year. The thing about it is, even with a "no repeats" rule there are still lots of different things you can do with that theme. For example, last year I looked more like Jon Bon Jovi, this year I'll probably look more Kat Von D-ish. I'm excited about it.

haha a friend of mine called me up and said she had a great slash costume...he'd be a fun one to do. Easy, too. T-shirt with obscene logo, black converses, top hat and cigarette. So I wanted her to be slash and I could be Axl but she backed out on me and is now going as a soup can from some Justin Timberlake skit. whatever.

Well,I may have the best glam costume this year, Im going as Dee Snider from Twisted Sister! Pretty much just a wig,a bunch of makeup, and of course, the big pink and black outfit. I also toyed with the idea of Alice Cooper, but thought it would be too easy.

Frankie is right about all you really need to do to glam it up for Halloween. Using brightly colored items of clothing with black, and bits with designs or animal patterns also help to create the "look".

I did just that when I used Twisted Sister as my inspiration once. I didn't go for dressing as any specific band member, I just tried to capture the overall look of their costumes and makeup and viola! For one night only "Mr. Sister" took the stage (And the candy)!

Alas, Mr. Sister has since vanished into the mists of time and has become the subject of several urban legends. :-D
