Today is the Day - Part 1

Believe it or not, the day is finally upon us and Chinese Democracy will formally see the light of day. At 12:01 a.m., Best Buy will roll out the disc.

Amazingly, I've held out and have not listened to every track on the disc. Guns n' Roses offered a screening of the album on Myspace earlier this week, but I never had enough time - plus, I really wanted to wait and listen to the physical CD. I figure after waiting 14 years, two more days wouldn't kill me.

I am buying the disc today - just like a lot of you I suspect. I'll post about my purchasing experience when I return from Best Buy. I don't expect any mad rushes for the door, people jockeyingfor position or running to the cash register, but hey - you never know.

I will also brave the cold for a trip to Best Buy today. Not many things can get me out of the house on a cold Sunday, but I've waited a long time for this!

I ordered it online as a pre-order a couple of weeks ago. In the UK it's due out on Monday, so I was delighted to find it waiting for me when I got back from watching a really crappy England performance in the rugby at Twickenham yesterday. Listened to it for the first time last night - and I love it. I shall give it another listen this morning because, well, just because I can really but also because I want to start unpicking the layers a bit.

I got the CD yesterday here in Sweden and it's actually really good if one can accept (or at least ignore) the fact that it's not the original line-up anymore. It's a quite complex record and many fans will probably be alienated, but I think it's great. Not even close to the old stuff, but still better than anything else released this year. Buy it and see what you think:)

Everybody is entitled to his/her opinion so here's mine. I really really don't like this album. Better is a decent song and Scraped is okay, but the other 12 songs are really really boring. Yes, the music is full of studio trickory which one might mistake for complexity, but in the end, this is mostly a CD full of mid-tempo filler that, if it hadn't been released under the Guns and Roses name, wouldn't even be a blip on the musical radar. It's kind of like when your five year old kid draws a picture that doesn't look like anything whatsoever, but you still think it is a brilliant piece of art because your kid drew it.

I think the excitement will be over fast with this album. Hopefully Axl will get his ass back in the studio quickly and do another record that sounds like a Guns N' Roses disc.
i'm so shocked there was ro rush or pushing or excitement.
