So Far, I Hate the Sweden Rock 2009 Lineup

The other day, the promoters of the Sweden Rock announced 21 bands that will pay the Festival. Here are those bands:

AMON AMARTH

BLACKFOOT

BULLET

DREAM THEATER

ENFORCER

EUROPE

FORBIDDEN

FOREIGNER

HAMMERFALL

HEAVEN AND HELL

IN FLAMES

LITA FORD

MARILLION

MOTÖRHEAD

RIOT

SEVENTH WONDER

SOILWORK

STORMZONE

THE OUTLAWS

THE TUBES

TORCH

URIAH HEEP

Am I crazy? Where is the Swedish sleaze?! I don't get it. I mean, Heaven and Hell are a good add, but come on. There's nothing on this list - so far - that makes me want to drop several thousand dollars on a trip halfway across the world.

Now, don't get me wrong: I'm optimistic. I'm holding out hope that the rest of the bands are perfectly Glam. If the lineup stays on this course, there's no chance I'll be at Sweden Rock 2009 (and this is painful to write!) The economy is terrible and spending a lot of money on a vacation is risky - but less so if the event is truly one of a lifetime. Crazy me, I actually want to see Swedish bands...while in Sweden.

Thoughts?

to be honest i've never even heard half those bands!
There are so many better ones they could have had in.
If I were you, i'd save yourself some money and wouldnt go.

I wouldnt bother going with that line up.

Just a point about yesterday - i meant to come back and say that you had stated on your 'on this day' about Freddie mercury passing in 1991 - but Eric Carr of Kiss passed the same day and he got no mention.

Okay, here's my opinion:

AMON AMARTH = Noise

BLACKFOOT = GREAT Band

BULLET = I don't know them

DREAM THEATER = My 2nd favourite Band (after Rush)

ENFORCER = I don't know them

EUROPE = AMAZING Band. Much better these days than in the past.

FORBIDDEN = I don't like them

FOREIGNER = GREAT Band. I'm going to see them in July

HAMMERFALL = Entertaining

HEAVEN AND HELL = Black Sabbath with Dio are the "REAL Black Sabbath", at least for me and for everybody who enjoys a very good singer over Ozzy. Saw them in 2007.

IN FLAMES = Very entertaining live act

LITA FORD = The best female singer in Rock

MARILLION = Boring

MOTÖRHEAD = Always entertaining. Saw them several times.

RIOT = I don't care

SEVENTH WONDER = Very promising progressive metal band

SOILWORK = I don't care

STORMZONE = I don't know them

THE OUTLAWS = I don't know them

THE TUBES = Not my music

TORCH = I don't know them

URIAH HEEP = GREAT Band - their new album is on my buy list.

I found 11 bands I'm interested in, which is good for a mixed festival like Sweden Rock. Please remember, Sweden Rock ist NOT a Glam Fest, Hair Metal or 80's Festival. It always was a Festival for Rock and Metal in general, new and old, with a variety of styles. This is NOT Rocklahoma!

@Allyson, there are at least 6 Swedish bands on the lineup already: Amon Amarth, Europe, HammerFall, In Flames, Seventh Wonder, Soilwork.

I didn't like that 21 bands line up...but still remais 55 other bands to be announced...
I saw CRASHDIET live....but they have no frontman at moment and the guitar is playing at Gemini Five (good choice) but in Europe and US you have tons of bands better than AMON AMARTH, MARILLION, STORMZONE, THE OUTLAWS, THE TUBES...etc...

the line up of the past year made me save money to this year but I don't know if I'll pay a lot to those bands!!!

what about Europe? They're about as Sweedish as you can get, right?

I wasn't particularly enthused either. I was hoping for much better than this...we'll see what the next couple bands are.

Sounds like the usual lineup-mix to me. Some good bands, some not so good bands. Just look at the previous years, it's always a mix like this. They didn't have THAT many glam bands last year too. And really, there are still 50 bands to be announced. 50(!) - it's way too early to judge the quality of the festival.

If you want glam and hair metal, you need to stay in the US, we don't have festivals in Europe that feature those bands heavily. You always have to accept that there are lots of bands you don't like. That's why we flew to Rocklahoma last year.

Thus far, I wouldn't go if it was across the street, let alone across an ocean.

Well Allyson AMON AMARTH is a really good band, heavy too, you should listen to them.

It is a great lineup for any first year event, but I agree that for a festival in the running for so long, that has such worldwide reputation, they could've come out with a stronger initial lineup.

YOU SHOULD TRY FIREFEST IN ENGLAND ITS PURE MELODIC ROCK

As a fan of all metal and rock music (mostly!) i must go to this festival, been there 4 times now so next year is the 5th anniversary for me and my friends.

Can't really say its a whoopie line-up, but some of them are great and respected by me. And if lita ford is there, maybe Jim Gillette will follow, and I am trying to get a backstage pass for the festival this time, so hopefully i will meet a vocal god :D

Here's my 2 cents:

AMON AMARTH = Death Metal - No Thanks.

BLACKFOOT = Good southern rock band , a little old hat for Sweden Rocks.

BULLET - Great Melodic Metal from Germany , shame on you for not knowing them.

DREAM THEATER = One of the world's best BUT not for non-musician types.

ENFORCER = ok , nothing special

EUROPE = Well , I mean these guys WERE awesome but their last 2 albums leave a lot to be desired.

FORBIDDEN = Classic Thrash!!

FOREIGNER = Great band - lots of hits.

HAMMERFALL = Another very good live band - solid power metal.

HEAVEN AND HELL = Dio and Sabbath - need to say more?

IN FLAMES = Never got into these guys and the cookie monster vox.

LITA FORD = Great songs , great live performance.

MARILLION = One of the best bands on the planet. They definitely ain't for 'hard rock' fans though. You're either in the 'click' or you're not.

MOTÖRHEAD = Never cared too much about this band. Solid but not mind-blowing.

RIOT = EXCELLENT!!

SEVENTH WONDER = Very good up n cummer.

SOILWORK = Great band , shitty vocals.

STORMZONE = One of the best Irish acts ever!! If you havent heard these guys then buy their cd NOW. AMAZING stuff.

THE OUTLAWS = Like Blackfoot , Southern Rock - too old hat for my liking.

THE TUBES = Coupla good hits and decent enuff band.

TORCH = Oh yeh , VERY cool!! Classic underground early-mid 80s Metal!

URIAH HEEP = Definitely past their prime but still have the goods to rock out. One of my faves from the 70s.
