All American Bands

Fireworks.jpgToday is Independence Day in America. What better way to celebrate than choosing the best solo acts and bands from all across the U.S.A.? The Phoenix Boston recently ranked the best band from every state in the union.

I'll admit, I have never heard the winners for Ohio - and the choice for best solo artist in California left my stunned. Click here for the list. Happy July 4th!

Yeah, I agree. While Dr. Dre helped define gangsta rap in the mid to late 80s and introduced us to the Fo' Rizzle Snoop, I don't feel he deserves to be number one solo artist. I think the ability to play a musical instrument besides a drum machine should be a qualifier.

But I think I might move to North Dakota after reading this:

"'Bismarck is a dead town,' once said the Pink Slips’ Kelly in an interview. 'You either drink, smoke, screw, die, eat, have a craft show, or have a band.'”

The craft shows have to be amazing there! "Yah y'betch, yah know."

where is Aerosmith from ?

Aerosmith are from Boston, Mass.

*Edit to add: I don't agree with placing Aerosmith in New Hampshire. Just because Steven Tyler met Joe Perry and Tom Hamilton there does not mean that's where the band began. Perry and Hamilton moved to Boston...the rest is history.

I'm actually from Bismarck originally. I wouldn't say it's a 'dead town' although there isn't a ton to do there. I've never heard of the Pink Slips. There are some more current solo artists than Peggy Lee in ND too like Jonny Lang or Shannon Curfman.

I was surprised too that they picked Mary J. Blige as the best solo artist from New York. What about Billy Joel?
