One for the "WTF" File

I'm not a Ryan Adams fan. I know of him as I write about music and therefore spend my days combing many different websites - but I don't love him. In fact, I very rarely think of him at all...until now. It seems Mr. Adams has written a "hair metal parody" called "The Awl (Hair Metal Version)."

The song is in honor of some new website called The Awl, for which Adams also writes. Apparently, the tune is supposed to be funny but I failed to laugh. I sort of liken the tune to nails on a chalkboard.

Click to listen.

That was soooo stupid. Gayest thing and waste of 1.16 of my life.

Ryan Adams is an overrated no talent hack, that the "over the hill" Rolling Stone magazine type rock critics have embraced as some type of Americana/roots rock icon.
Americana "musicians" = Not talented enough for country, to lazy for rock. I guess you could call it the emo of country music.
Either way Ryan Adams sucks

Who the heck is Ryan Adams?

Ryan Adams is a tool. I remember reading articles about him when he was first getting noticed. Because his name is ryan Adams, sometimes people in the audience would jokingly ask him to play "summer of '69." Instead of laughing it off, he would storm off stage like a big baby.

It's a joke. He likes metal, to listen to, and does some joke metal stuff off and on. Ever heard the albums "Gold," "Cold Roses," Jacksonville City Nights," "Easy Tiger?" Ever heard the song "The Stars Go Blue," badly sung by some country singer, but still a beautiful song. Ever heard "Two," which has been on many a soundtrack? I'm always sorry for people who are ignorant of his music. I've seen him and various bands of his many times, never seen a bad show. Which is more than I can say for most of the other groups I've seen.

bill G, I don't think anyone here doesn't understand that this was intended as a joke. Doesn't Allyson refer to it as a parody? doesn't she also say that it is supposed to be funny? That doesn't sound like ignorance to me. We all know it's supposed to be a joke. It's just not funny.

He's got quite a nutty sense of humor for a guy who had someone kicked out of one of his shows for requesting "Summer of '69."

I'm a Ryan Adams fan and I'm not afraid to admit it. I think he is freaking phenomenal, but I can understand how or why people don't like him. He's just not everyone's cup of tea. I suppose you have to like Ryan Adams to understand his quirky-ness, his weird sense of humor...and this song. I've seen him live a few times and he always goes off on a weird tangent and starts making up silly songs to sing to the crowd. And he does like glam. In fact, at his last show, he walked out in a Whitesnake T-shirt and was talking about Britney Fox. Did anyone bother to read his article for The Awl? He references Dio. :)

He is a douche. That song is not funny. My freind has seen him twice in New Orleans, both times he acted like a bitch and left the stage early...what a showman!!!
