Remember Raging Slab?

Raging Slab isn't Glam, but they are definitely 80s metal. I don't think we've ever talked about them here, but I do dig them when I'm in a "country boogie rock" sort of mood.

I can't help but compare Raging Slab to both the Black Crowes and Lynyrd Skynyrd. Is that fair? Who knows. Still, I think it's an accurate description of the band's sound.

Raging Slab released their indie debut in 1987 and were on a major (RCA) by 1989. There was constant touring, more writing and recording and eventual label issues and lineup changes. I think Raging Slab still exists today, but I'm not sure how long it has been since the band actually played a live gig. At any rate, I'm in the mood - so let's have a listen. And tell me, did you ever see Raging Slab live back in the day?

Although they may not be for everybody, I can comment all day about the first two Slab albums. Since '87 I don't think I've gone more tha a couple of weeks without listening to at least one of the songs. Seeing them live was amazing, they brought an arena sized energy to a small club. I once saw them with White Lion And Extreme and still stands as one of my favorite nights at any show. I was also at Madison Square Garden when Greg Strzempka did the encore with Motley Crue. I think their subsequent releases have been hit or miss. I have hope one day they will recapture the spirit of the two songs from this post. To all fellow Slabsters, Keep Flappin' your Boogie Flap!

These guys are great. I've always loved the first two albums. I saw them live one night in Hollywood, I think it was at Raji's. They were awesome! Totally rocked the place. Anthony Keidis from the Chili Peppers even jumped up on stage that night and sang a Neil Young song with them.

I think this is the best example of a band who chose a name that probably held them back. The name just doesn't fit the music.....

Nonetheless, Dynamite Moster Boogie Concert is one of the greatest albums ever. Unbelievably talented band.

I agree Brian C. I never really got the name either. I just kinda thought "whatever" but ya it could've actually hurt them in a commercial marketing sorta way. I dunno ....whatever.
