This Is Simply Awesome: Slash and Lzzy Hale

There are more important things in the world of Glam for us to be discussing today, but I don't care. I came across some stuff on YouTube you just have to see.

Slash and his band performed in Amsterdam awhile back. During one of the stops, Slash and Myles Kennedy invited Lzzy Hale, lead singer of Halestorm, to join them on stage for some fun. The performance is basically epic. I love Lzzy's voice on "Out Ta Get Me."

Saw this a few weeks ago.Lizzy is awesome.(and I'm not just saying that because halestorm is from about 75 miles South of me) And I agree Jeff, she f*cking NAILS it!! Halestorm is based out of York PA Metalboy, Kix's old stomping grounds!!!

Okay, here comes my nit-pick of the day. One of my pet peaves is when a singer pronounces a long E sound as a long A sound. "they're out ta get may" as opposed to "they're out ta get me." I know long E sounds are hard to sing, especially in a high register, but Lzzy has enough vocal chops that she doesn't have to rely on that shortcut. david Lee roth is also guilty of this when he sings live. "you're just exactly what the doctor ordered, come and talk to may." Like i said, I know that's extremely nit-picky, but it just bugs me, and lessens my enjoyment of what is otherwise a killer vocal performance on her part.

Shes a far better singer than that Myles Kennedy guy, thats for sure. Myles is the big darling in our scene right now for whatever reason. I think he is sooooo over-rated, it makes me ill.

She sounds good. I do not like the Halestorm stuff I have heard but this was nice.

I've never heard her before but I really don't love her voice on this song. She can rock and she looks pretty good too but I can't say I'm a huge fan of her vocals.

Lzzy's decent. I agree with Kenny -- Kennedy is way overated. Really kinda generic the way Slash's playing can be sometimes (Cross Page with Perry, add a dash of Beck, top with top hat). That's why it kinda annoyed me when Slash f*cked up his last album cover graphics by slappin' Kennedy's name across it.

Gary -- Appreciate the Shoutout. York is pretty close to Baltimore, ain't it? Why do I think I went to York to go skiin' as a kid? Is that right? Gotta Google.

GNR -- No! They're NOT! And I used to party with these guys back in the day in NYC a little bit and I'm still tellin' ya that! OK -- They got 3 good songs and one REALLY ANNOYING #1 Hit. Those songs are "Kid Ego", "Mutha (Don't Wanna Go To School Today), "Play With Me" and the eternally unbearable unpowerballad, "More Than Words".

Interestingly, the first 3 songs, which are pretty good, are from their eponymous first album. The latter "hit" is from their multi-platinum sophomore effort, "Pornograffiti", one of THE best album titles for one of THE worst albums ever! UNROCK!

Rita! -- Are you divorced yet?

Uh, I will add that Extreme's guitarist, Nuno Bettencourt, is a friggin' monster and shoulda split from them right after "Porno" to join Poison or sumthin'. He always outcooled Cherone and the other dudes from Extreme.

Not yet Metalboy! But thanks for asking.

Metalboy! What about "He Man Woman Hater" from Porno... One of my favorite songs on that album, because of the guitar work mostly.

Only because it is you who is asking, I will check it out, Rita!

Agreed on Extreme and Nuno MB. Frickin' guy is an animal on his instrument. And I would add Decadence Dance to your list.Nuno rips it up on that one also. From a guitarists standpoint, that intro to "Mutha" is phenominal

And Bob, my nit pick like that is with Bret Michaels. Pronounces Heart "hawt"Rock "rawk" etc. For Chrissakes Bret, ya grew up 60 miles south of me in Mechanicsburg PA at exactly the same time, and there ain't nobody with that accent down there....LOL

Michael's has got that Philadelphia/Baltimore accent thing goin' on when he's talkin' and kinda sounds like a redneck the way he sings now but back in the day, if you'll recall, he came from the Vince Neil School of Chipmunkian Vocals.
