Bon Jovi, 'Happy New Year,' -- New Video

Another new video for Bon Jovi. This time, it's for the track "Happy New Year" from the new album This House Is Not For Sale. Judging by past comments, it seems like most of you hate this album, but I stand by my assessment that this is a really strong work. I've still never seen Bon Jovi live. Hopefully that changes someday soon.

I wish we could get a Bon Jovi super fan to tell us how many song he says "sha la la la la Laaaa" in. Love the whisper singing he does now. Easy on the throat

You've never seen Jovi? Do yourself a favor and wait the return of Sambora (whenever it may be). Jon + Richie together on stage is when the magic hapoens. Happy New Year everyone!

I must be in a reflective mood today, because I can see--and you can apply this to other comments of mine--how someone might change alongside the bands they love. For some, the purists or classicists, such a thing is blasphemy. For others, the fan boys and girls, it is as seemingly natural as a couple of flecks of grey hair.

And notice I said _change_ above. It certainly is an issue to consider (especially here, since we have talked about it in various ways) as relates to _age_ too. But it isn't necessarily always an age issue. As an example, consider how divisive Judas Priest's _Turbo_ album was when it came out. Come to think about it, _Turbo_ is an example where, as it has aged (as have the fans), it has come to be regarded with less criticism. MC's eponymous reboot with Corabi is another case in point, even if the sides are a bit more brightly drawn, esp. considering MC's recent retirement and all the news surrounding it.

For me, personally, the issue with BJ has to do with the fact that, as they have continued, certain elements have become more front and center, where others have fallen by the wayside. They were never a favorite of mine (see a recent post). But I got why they were popular. And that is about all I "get" when I hear songs like this.

I suppose, for some like Kari, the idea of Sambora back in the mix adds a bit of something like having DLR back in Van Halen (if you reverse the figures) did for me, (unlike having Slash back in GnR). Though I wonder, how much finality is there with the break between the two key players? One seems more comfortable having a firmer grip on the b(r)and; the other seems to wrestle with things he is less than forthcoming about. Between those two poles lies a fairly large gap. What would it take to bridge it? Well, money for starters.

HIM! Great analysis. However, this isn't worth it, as the album AND the band are Grade A BOREFESTS! Unmemorable songwriting. No b*lls (guitars). Insipid, cliche lyrics. About the only thing left of this "band" besides a shadow of Bob Jovi's voice is that impish looking keyboardist's Geri Curls (too lazy to check out the guy's name).

Mediocrity at it's finest!

Wow. This is complete garbage. Bon Jovi got old and started playing easy listening music. I really bothers me to watch a band fall apart in front of my eyes. They used to be so great.

Clearly, this album is not BJ's best output, but it still rocks. And, the single above is not one of the better songs and the video is so contrived. To me, it's more of a concept album, where it's better to listen (if you can get through it) from beginning to end.

I've been comparing it to two other albums- Van Halen's "A different kind of truth" and BJ's "Have a nice day"- the latter, I always thought should have been a JBJ solo album, as I believe that "This house is not for sale", should have been, too. It just doesn't have the chutzpah as their earlier releases, much like ADKOT can't be compared to VH1 or II.
