Metallica Announce Festival Tour

Metallica will play two different shows at five different 2020 festivals in America. The news came out yesterday and one of the band's stops is at Sonic Temple (formerly Rock on the Range). I will probably try to go to one of their shows at Sonic Temple. I don't think I need to see both. The quandary is that the sets are supposed to be completely different. So I guess it is a crapshoot as to which era of Metallica you might get live.

I was sort of surprised at all the negative comments on the Sonic Temple Facebook after this announcement. Most folks were not happy. They feel they've been screwed out of a headliner. Metallica is one of the biggest bands in the world - you just can't please people anymore.

I don’t think the issue is with Metallica headlining ... but 2 nights. I am not a fan of that either. Yes they are a huge band absolutely worthy of headlining but why 2 nights? I know why ... it’s about money. Little birdie says the 3 festivals in Louisville barely made any money (maybe even operated at a loss) so get one big band to headline 2 nights saves you probably 75% of the cost of another headliner. Another issue may be that there are just not that many hard rock/metal acts worthy of headlining at all. This year we had Slipknot, GNR and Disturbed. Metallica next year check. Who else? Rammstein is perfect (one can hope...). Maiden? The list is short ... very short. They need a glam rock day so you could have Bon Jovi or Def Leppard headline. Rock on!

OK thought of 2 more potential headliners ... AC/DC and Ozzy. Curious to hear more.

OK, thought of two more worthy headliners ... AC/DC (or AXL/DC?) and Ozzy. Curious to hear others. And I mean real rock/metal headliners that can draw 50,000+ to a festival in the USA! And not Foo Fighters as they played Bourbon and Beyond this year already lol.

AC/DC, Slipknot, Judas Priest & Iron Maiden keep coming in the various threads. IMO, Iron Maiden makes the least sense, just because they had an extensive North American tour this past summer, but all of them seem realistic. AC/DC with Brian Johnson on vocals would be huge if it works out. Louder than Life is now Danny Wimmer's biggest festival, so if AC/DC were in the cards, I would predict them for that one.

I was also surprised at some of the negative comments. I get that Metallica is taking up an extra headliner slot, but there are still another 55+ bands that will be there, some of whom are headliners in their own right.

I would not trust Ozzy anymore. He just canceled his 2nd European tour. I don't think he has it in him for a long tour anymore at 71Years old. Sharon needs to let him retire!!!!

I love that my city of Louisville Ky is representing so well for this festival. I’ve been 3 of the 4 yrs so far and even though I liked the other location more, the new setup will just take a while to get used to. It definitely seems to be getting bigger & bigger every yr though! 🤘🏼
