The inductees for the 2022 class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame were announced this morning. Guess what? Judas Priest made it in! The full slate of new inductees is below. The list includes Pat Benatar, Lionel Richie and yes, Dolly Parton.

Halford: Please Stop Destroying Your Legacy With The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Stuff

Today's article is from our friend HIM.

In news that should shock no one, metal greats Judas Priest limped along in the fan vote category once again. And, really, who cares? Me? Not at all. Some of you? I guess so.

https://www.rockhall.com/2022-nominees

The results are, yet again, an indication why no one who loves rock should actually care about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It is nonsense. And before any of you start to spit up and yell, remember: the fan vote thing is just a bit of misdirection. It barely counts for anything when it comes to actual inductees.

It also barely counts when you are sifting and sorting actual acts that had an impact. Look waaaaay down on the list. You see that band named MC5. They are/were pretty important.

So why am I bagging on Halford? He doesn’t need this sort of thing. He already has his status, his legacy. Same, too, Downing (in spite of the fact that he actually comes out a lot better than some of you give him credit for, especially when you factor in all the shenanigans that involve people named Tipton and Andrews). Blinks also deserves recognition, as he slammed on some of their classics. Oh, and then there’s Holland. Tough sell. Great timekeeper. But his other actions tarnish (if not destroy) his legacy (and Downing hurts his credibility with apologetics regarding Holland’s actions). Exhibit A and B? Iommi removed his tracks from a record and Priest has basically erased his image from their history. If I was a prude, I would say it is suspect that the Rock Hall even included him. But that is for others to sort out. See? I can be fair to a sham institution too.

And I know that countless other people (and sites) say this is really just about the fans. Really? Is it? I don’t think so. True fans of any of these artists love them regardless of what goes on in some ballroom, or what is stapled to a wall in Cleveland. So, again, Halford: stop it. Your band has made a lot of mistakes over the years. You could still be as big as Maiden if you had played your cards right. But you didn’t. And you aren’t. Still, you have fans that love you. A Metal God should stand above the riff-raff, above the cheesy trinkets, and just demonstrate that you are what you say you are. Because, after all, it is a bit cloying when a person tells you they are a God, while asking for others to get them inducted into something that isn’t even Parthenon-adjacent. Just saying.

Favorite Hair Metal Deep Cuts

This is a fun little article. Metal Edge interviewed Satchel from Steel Panther on his favorite hair metal deep-cuts. The list includes Dokken, Dio, EZO, Hurricane and Judas Priest. I can't say any of the choices on the list would make my own cut, but this is an interesting and varying selection, so I give mad props. The inclusion of EZO is really interesting. Click the link to see the list and give the article a read. It's a short one and it is fun.

Just One More Reason To Love Rob Halford

Rob Halford of Judas Priest is The Metal God. Rob is lending his fame to helping rescue cats for a California shelter named Kitten Rescue. He's auctioning off his collection of cat T-shirts to benefit the Kitten Rescue as well. If you click the Blabbermouth link, you'll see some of those T-shirt photos. I have the same "HISS" shirt, ha!

Halford got to name a bunch of newborn cats at the shelter, too. Naturally they are all named after Priest songs. Meow!

Sunday's Best: Week 10, 2022

The time change happened overnight and we made it! It's one of my favorite days of the year: a time of renewed hope for longer and warmer days full of sunshine. Spring officially starts next Sunday and we've got St. Patrick's Day this week, too!

To me, it's time for happy or inspiring metal songs - and that's our Sunday's Best for this week. Some of my choices are below:

Ozzy Osbourne - Flying High Again
Saxon - Denim and Leather
Poison - Nothin' But A Good Time
Steel Panther - Party All Day
Judas Priest - Living After Midnight
I See Stars - Electric Forest
RATT - Best Of Me
Dio - Stand Up And Shout

Also I suppose we could just listen to any power metal and call it a day. (I kid, sort of). What are some of your go-to uplifting tracks?

KISS, Judas Priest To Headline Aftershock Festival

First, is it poking the bear to name a festival held in California... Aftershock? Anyway, this fall's Aftershock festival will be headlined by Kiss, Judas Priest, Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, Foo Fighters, Shinedown and lots more. Other bands like Ice Nine Kills, Dirty Honey and Bullet for My Valentine will also perform. Tickets are available now. The fest takes place October 6, 7, 8, and 9 in Sacramento, California. A quick glance of tickets tells me that the 4-day GA pass is $460 with fees. VIP passes are also available.

Let's Help Judas Priest Get In The Rock Hall

For all the problems with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (and yes, there are many) we should definitely support Judas Priest and their chance to get in this year. The band is asking for help in voting them in... all you need to do is visit https://vote.rockhall.com and choose Priest in the drop down menu. At my last check, Pat Benatar was easily winning the fan vote and Judas Priest were sitting at about the middle of the pack. We can do better than that!
