Sunday's Best: Week 10, 2022

The time change happened overnight and we made it! It's one of my favorite days of the year: a time of renewed hope for longer and warmer days full of sunshine. Spring officially starts next Sunday and we've got St. Patrick's Day this week, too!

To me, it's time for happy or inspiring metal songs - and that's our Sunday's Best for this week. Some of my choices are below:

Ozzy Osbourne - Flying High Again
Saxon - Denim and Leather
Poison - Nothin' But A Good Time
Steel Panther - Party All Day
Judas Priest - Living After Midnight
I See Stars - Electric Forest
RATT - Best Of Me
Dio - Stand Up And Shout

Also I suppose we could just listen to any power metal and call it a day. (I kid, sort of). What are some of your go-to uplifting tracks?

Need An Ugly Holiday Sweater?

Every metal band has holiday merchandise these days and most are running sales... I do not go in for these styles of band shirts, but I think Poison might have a lock on the ugliest designs this season. I mean, you could easily nab one of these sweatshirts and win your office or family ugly sweater contest this year. Of course, ugly ain't cheap. These sweatshirts are $50 a pop!

Kingpin to Shotgun Messiah

Happy November. It is hard to believe the holiday season is almost here.

Before Shotgun Messiah was a thing, a version of the band was known as Kingpin. The Swedish Kingpin released an album called Welcome to Bop City and it has some pretty catch tunes on it, including "Don't Care About Nothin'" and you can hear that one below.

I was listening to "Don't Care About Nothin'" and was struck by how much the song sounds like Open Up and Say... Ahh! era-Poison. The albums lived in the same time universe as Welcome To Bop City came out in 1988 just like Poison's Glam masterpiece. "Shout It Out" was also on Welcome To Bop City and that song was a hit in Sweden before the band was rebranded as Shotgun Messiah.

It never ceases to amaze me that super-star-tough-guy bassist Tim Skold was in Kingpin/Shotgun Messiah.

Just for fun - some clips of Tim Skold with Marilyn Manson.
