Be The Change You Want To See In The World

Happy 4th of July, my fellow Americans! I'm enjoying a day off work. The heat index where I live will be 108 degrees today (seriously). So I'm either staying in air conditioning or hitting the pool. Meanwhile, celebrate like this guy below. Rock on, metal friends. Rock on.

From Stephen King's Facebook page:
Progressives, go find a Trump supporting friend--the one you haven't spoken to since November of 2016--and give him or her a hug. Trumpies, find a "liberal snowflake" friend and do the same. Just for today, let's all be Americans.

I'm pretty sure Mr. King and I disagree on most things political, but I'm grateful we live in a country where we are free to do so.
Hope you all have a great Independence Day.

Belated happy fourth to everyone. I spent mine out in nature, with no cell service, for two glorious days.

And I will partially pick up the positive beat that oper8n was laying down. During my time outdoors, I spent a whole of time doing the "how ya' doing" nod and the "hope you are having a good time" wave to a bunch of people I didn't know and will never see again. What linked us was the sense that we were where we were, all enjoying it, and not bothering to stir things up or try to find reasons to get into a slap fight. If only that sorta' attitude could be extended past moments like those.

I get it. There is a need for political action. There is a need to take a stand. There is a need to draw lines in the sand. But, on this holiday, it was me and a bunch of people just letting each other live, letting each other breathe some fresh air, and being thankful that we are lucky enough to live in a place where such opportunities are available.

And oper8n is right about another thing: we do live in a country where those sorts of opportunities exist. And we should be thankful for it, regardless our political, religious, or sexual stripes. Those opportunities don't extend to everyone. And that sucks. But we are still a place that affords more chances than a lot of other places in the world. It would be great if we can get to a place where more people here get those opportunities. That is as close to political as I will come.

So, again, happy fourth everyone. I hope you spent it well. Perhaps you might even tell us how you spent it.
