In Which Jerry Cantrell And Duff McKagan Record Another Song Together

Singer and guitarist Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains fame teamed up with bassist Duff McKagan of Guns n' Roses for a new song called "I Want Blood." The song is off the Cantrell album of the same name. The album came out in October of 2024, so I am going to guess this will be the last "single" from it, but who knows. I think it is pretty catchy and nicely heavy. There's that Glam influence mixed with true metal, which I love.
You might recall Cantrell and McKagan recorded together previously for Duff's solo album called Lighthouse.
Another blurring of genre lines for sure. What do you think?

Both Brighten and I Want Blood are great recent solo efforts. Solid songs. Great guitar. The sort of vocals you would expect from the guy that backed up Layne and now backs up William (though it took him awhile to actually let William truly take the lead vocal spot . . . whatever). And the packaging of the I Want Blood LP was, like Brighten, exceptional.
Thing is, I really want the next AiC to be as good as his recent solo ventures. Black Gives Way to Blue and The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here were amazing (though, again, Cantrell seemed to have trouble with actually letting William take the lead, vocal-wise). Rainier Fog? A few bright spots. But generally as flat as a can of Rainier left out in the sun for a couple of hours. Methinks that splitting his focus has ended up watering down his primary band (no beer pun intended).
As an aside, I hope Sean Kinney is healing and back behind the kit soon. I have never seen such a powerful sounding drummer sit behind his drums and look like he was both underwhelmed and having the time of his life.
Same holds true for Crüe … Sixx channeled his energy toward Sixx:AM instead of Crüe though I will say, I thought “The Dirt”, their cover of Madonna’s “Like A Virgin” and their cover of The Beastie Boys’ “Fight For Your Right” are pretty good, yet Mick Mars’ solo stuff was a tad underwhelming.
And same goes for Alice In Chains … Underwelming!
