Farewell Sly Stone

Sly Stone, leader of the Family Stone, died yesterday at age 82. He was truly a pioneer of funk and make some great music over the years.

There's a reason why everyone knows the song "Everyday People" -- I just wish people heeded the words and meaning more.

And the legendary set from Woodstock.

What Tracii said!

Just brutal … If only he coulda escaped his demons, maybe he woulda been able to keep going …

The dude was an absolute genius!

p.s. Though I grew up loving all his music, having owned many of his albums, my favorite of his songs, is his last big hit, “Family Affair”.

Nice to see some hair metal fellows paying tribute (and that includes you, Metalboy!). He was, as Mb! notes, a haunted genius. But, man oh man, his influence!

Questlove's SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius) is a nice hat tip to his impressive and, sadly, disjointed career. It's a cliche at this point, but some of the most talented are also tormented by those same gifts that bring them acclaim.

RIP Mr. Stewart.
