Nickelback Rocks Metallica Classic

You knew Metallica was going to be featured on this week’s best covers list, right? How about Nickelback doing Metallica in a very proper, very heavy way?!?

Years ago, Nickelback played the Rock Am Ring festival and covered “Sad But True.” The song works on so many levels, especially since Nickelback were directly catering to their festival audience that day. Rock Am Ring books lots of true metal acts, so Nickelback needed to deliver. If you don’t nod your head along with this cover, you’re dead inside.

Orianthi Does AC/DC

More covers! How about some AC/DC? Everyone loves them, right? Well, most rockers do, especially the famous ones.

Guitarist Orianthi recently performed at the PRS Guitars 40th Anniversary Celebration show – and she brought out fellow guitarist and singer Dany Villarreal of The Warning to join her in a performance of AC/DC’s “Back In Black.” This is a pretty stellar performance and great duo to boot. Women rock!

Joe Bonamassa and .38 Special

Today, a cover of “Hold On Loosely” by .38 Special. Maybe I posted this before, or maybe not, but the clip needs to be here today. Joe Bonamassa & Train recently teamed up to cover .38’s biggest hit and the results are pretty amazing. Peep the guitar solo! It’s an interesting combo of Train and Joe B., but hey, anything goes today, so why not?

Blackberry Smoke Does Molly Hatchet

The next few days, I will share some awesome covers that you’ve probably never seen or heard.

Today, a video of Blackberry Smoke performing the Molly Hatchet classic “Flirtin’ with Disaster.”

This video was made during a performance earlier this month in Portland, Maine.

The cover is amazingly true to the original. Honestly, if you were just listening to the song, you would probably think you were hearing Molly Hatchet live!

Pretty Boy Floyd Announces World Tour

Pretty Boy Floyd will hit the road soon to do shows across America, Mexico, Ireland, Sweden and the UK. The band will perform all of Leather Boyz with Electric Toyz live (at least I think. Some posts have mentioned this.) PBF will also perform all of Motley Crue's debut album live. A video for the band's new single "Love Sick" is coming soon.

Rockett Mafia Covers 'I Think I Love You'

Gotta be honest, the sound of the first Rockett Mafia track isn't exactly what I was expecting, but I like it.

Rockett Mafia is Rikki Rockett's new band, also featuring Brandon Gibbs, Mick Sweda and Bryan Kimes. Covering David Cassidy (ok, The Partridge Family) is an interesting choice, but it does work here. I wish the production was louder on this one, but that is a small complaint. I certainly hope we get original music soon.

New Smith/Kotzen Song & Video Released

"Black Light" is the new song from Richie Kotzen and Adrian Smith. The song is on the upcoming album Black Light / White Noise. To be honest, this one is more of a miss for me. I am still hopeful for the new record because you know I love Kotzen. I just don't like the way his voice blends with Smith's on this record. I've seen lots of mixed reviews online, too. There's definitely a bucket of fans who love this and then there are lots of vocal critics. Thoughts?
