Farewell Dolly, and Thank You
I said we needed to protect Dolly Parton at all costs and today, someone failed.
Dolly Parton has died at the age of 80. The cause of death was not released, but Dolly had health scares in the past couple of years.
The woman was an icon in music, film and business and also a larger-than-life philanthropist. She loved reading and gave books away to kids through her Imagination Library program. She has scholarships in her name and developed programs to increase the high school graduation rate in her home state of Tennessee. She wrote a personal check for a million bucks to help speed along the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine. She changed the fate of Sevier County, Tenn., by making it a major tourist destination in America.
I’m no country music fan, but Dolly’s music was always different. Probably because the quality of her songwriting was just so darn powerful. She’s been covered by everyone across multiple genres. She’s recorded with Motley Crue, Richie Sambora, Elton John, Peter Frampton, Joan Jett, Lizzo, Melissa Etheridge, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Miley Cyrus… and just about everyone else, too.
Also, let me just say there has never been anyone more Glam than Dolly Parton. Girl wore the hell out of some rhinestones and tight jeans. Absolute legend.
