Happy Record Store Day To Me - Steely Dan Edition

Today is the American Record Store Day (UK version was a couple of weeks ago) - so happy times to all who celebrate! I scored a copy of Steely Dan’s Alive In America. It’s the first time the album has ever been released on vinyl, so I’m pumped. In fact, I got the last copy at Omega Music in Dayton, Ohio.

Omega opened at 8 a.m., but I didn’t go until 1:30 p.m. There was still a line out the door when I arrived. I was watching the Steely Dan stock online carefully. Before I went to my morning pilates, the store had 38 copies. By the time I got home, it was down to 24. Then, when I got in line… three remained. When I finally hit the “RSD Exclusives” area, there was a single copy left - and I grabbed it so fast.

I missed out on the Bruno Mars RSD Exclusive Collaborations release. He is this year’s official Record Store Day ambassador. That album is still in stock at Plaid Room Records - so maybe I will be able to get it when they put their leftover RSD stock online tomorrow morning. Plaid Room is in Loveland, Ohio - not too far from me, but not next door either.

If you are ever in southern Ohio, please do yourself a favor and check out these awesome, independent record stores. There’s nothing in it for me for saying this - I simply think they have great stock and groovy staff.
