Lou Gramm, ‘Young Love’ New Song - I Got Questions!

Today’s post is from our friend HIM. Lou Gramm will drop a new solo album called Released on March 27, 2026. “Young Love” is his first new solo song in 17 years.

I am an unabashed Gramm Fann! From the classic Foreigner hits to his solo works, I have loved his singing since I first heard him.

I am also a person who has followed his bumpy path through the years. I think Mick Jones did him wrong when he was suffering from potentially fatal health issues near the end of his initial tenure with the band (I saw the band on that tour in the late-90s with the Augeri-led Journey where Gramm could barely croak). I know Gramm has struggled with addiction and the pressures of being a rock star. That said, I am also glad he is helping the band out in recent years.

Why? The band is a nostalgia act. People want to see them. But, if Jones can’t be there for understandable reasons, having Gramm there to help is a great extra for those of us who know the band’s history (even as we appreciate Hurricane’s Kelly Hansen and his solid delivery over the years). Most in the audience don’t even know that a member of Dokken is slapping the bass. But he is! Long live rock in whatever form.

Right?

Right.

“Young Love” though? Well, it sounds like it is another track off of Ready or Not (1997), which featured “Midnight Blue,” a song I love. Let me correct that. It sounds like a song off of that album, but with a bit too much synthesizer. Imagine that?

No, the real question is this: are those vocals real? They sound like late-70s or early-80s Gramm. And that doesn’t make sense. His live performances in recent years have been pretty good, all things considered. But this single suggests that Gramm is singing like he did decades ago.

And here is the thing. I love this sound. I love Gramm’s singing. But I don’t buy for one minute that this isn’t a digital creation. Case in point: Steve Perry. He now sings what he can, as he can, because he can. But this single sounds like magic. It makes me think that I missed a song from the past. I know I didn’t. And that makes me both glad, sad, and mad.

Lou, what are you doing? I am so happy you are out there performing for a bit more time. But this single seems to promise too much.

Allyson here! My beloved Vivian Campbell is playing guitar on this new one. Can you tell? Love it!
