‘Maximum Metallica’ - New SiriusXM Channel

All of a sudden this morning, SiriusXM started promoting a special live Howard Stern Show featuring drummer Lars Ulrich of Metallica to broadcast at 8 a.m. Like, I heard the promo on both Octane and Hair Nation between 7:45 and 7:55 a.m. I’m not a regular Howard listener, but I was interested enough to click it on. It took my entire commute plus walking into my building and then turning on my Bluetooth speaker to get to the announcement (45 minutes+ total), but here it is:

Metallica will now have their own channel on satellite radio called Maximum Metallica. It will air on channel #42.

Probably like just about everyone else, I assumed the announcement was going to be a Metallica residency at the Las Vegas Sphere, but no go.

The new channel will debut August 29 and will be free for anyone with access to SiriusXM the entire month of September. So that means folks without a subscription can still listen to this channel via the app or in a car with equipped radios.

To celebrate the new channel, Metallica will host a tiny club concert on Thursday, August 28. The concert takes place at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett, Long Island. Apparently, the club is so small it holds less than 300 people, so that will be nuts for sure. Of course, SiriusXM is giving away a chance to see the show. You don’t need to be a subscriber to enter or win so you might as well.

A recording of the Long Island show will run on the channel the following Monday.
