True 80s Flashback - Must See

Disclaimer: I didn't find this clip. Someone on Metal Sludge posted the below link from the Enigma Records marketing department vault. The clip shows fans outside a concert hall in Los Angeles, waiting for Poison to take the stage.

At the filming on the clip, Poison were a new band - the fans were ready for the release of Look What the Cat Dragged In!

I was alive before Poison became famous but I swear I can't really remember a time without their music in my life. That's just how important some bands become to each of us. The clip below is historically significant on so many levels. Not only does it show a snapshot of American pop culture - but also illustrates how a fledging label really tried to organically market their "next big band" from the grassroots level. Also, I love looking at the fashions in this clip - spandex a plenty!

Reminds me of seeing an unknown White Lion every weekend back in '86 (Wow now I really feel old!)

i dont want to cut down poison because i like them too but i read somewhere that when poison started out bret couldnt sing in tune and rikki couldnt keep a beat worth his life. any truth to this? i have never seen them live back then or now.

I saw Poison for the first time this past summer and, let me tell you, even though 22 (now 23) years had passed, they didn't disappoint. It's true that Rikki couldn't play for shit back then, but he got better, the whole band did, and they're now better than ever, musically that is. They could use some more volume in their, like in the 80's, Bobby and Bret are straight as a railroad track.

Yep, back in the day, Poison's playing - except CC - really sucked... Especially Rikki and Bret... But, to their credit, Rickki improved a LOT and Bret learned how to write hooks... vocally he still has the range of Ben Stein... Bobby Dall however has always been pretty rock solid.

Can't fault their marketing though!

I got to see Poison twice in late 86 back to back nights in NY..and they kicked ass...they hit at a perfect time. I do think Bret borrowed a bit of his stage banter and style from Steve from KIX..but who stopped KIX from going out to LA..no one..Poison loaded up that van from PA and did what proved to make them very successful....
