Chickenfoot Covers Deep Purple Live

From the awesome file: Chickenfoot covers Deep Purple's "Highway Star" live. Be warned: this is one of the best live clips I've ever seen, by any band, period.

Awesome! I've always liked Sammy (except with VH)Just wish he would play guitar more than just on his "Red Rocker" songs......

Saw them at ROK last year and they were technically excellent. I wish they would have played a more diverse set list, but they are the group Chickenfoot (Not Sammy, VH or Joe). You could tell they still enjoyed playing together which is refreshing with many of the groups these days splitting on a frequent basis.

great cover, also love Buckcherry's cover of the same song.

Very cool. Agree with others, they love what they are doing and it shows.

Will Ferrell is a good drummer too!

Hahaha!!! Kix Chix! Funniest line on here yet this year!

Yes, these guys just kill it with their cover of "Highway Star"!

Too bad NOTHING Chickensh*t ever wrote even comes close to the excellence of this Deep Purple classic. Also, as "T" points out, Buckcherry's cover of "Highway Star" is also quite excellent, and distinctly, more BADA*S than Chickensh*t, who in the final analysis, really are quite GENEROCK!

Below is a link to the BADA*S way to "cover" the song...

F*ck technical proficiency and the goofball stuff of Hagar & Friends...

Here's what REAL Rock and Roll stagecraft is all about -- Flash and Bravado! Huh-uh-lo-oh?!... Showmanship! And check out the stack heels and bell bottoms! What the h*ll happened, people?...

This... is... pardon the expression... C*CK ROCK at it's finest...

View at your own risk...

That'll work!

.... And yet, Heart gets the nod for the R&R Hall of Fame, over Deep Purple? It's a travesty. And that's all I have to say about that.

This is an awesome song. Chickenfoot are amazing, their second CD was brilliant. They are high on my list of bands I want to see live.

Ace!

Christian!

Happy New Year!

Glad to see you guys back to Bring Back Glam!

Snore, Christian! No Bad*ss Factor! They are calculatingly commercial Generock! At least you and I agree on Black Veil Brides.

Couldn't agree more about Deep Purple going before Heart, Ace!

Perhaps my definition is too Generock. How about this:

Chickensh*t is NERDROCK!

That's it!

p.s. Remember, I'm not knocking their technical ability. Their cover (really the the only good song) is really quite proficient. But again, they lack flash and bada*s swagger, the key to GREAT showmanship. At least Hagar was once kinda bada*s when he was in Montrose (Exhibit A: "Bad Motor Scooter") and recorded one bada*s song (Exhibit B: "One Way To Rock"), and sure, there's no taking away his pipes of gold, but other than having some excellent chops, he's a goofball. Satriani, who I saw pointblank at Hammerjack's off "Surfing with the Alien", put out one semi-bada*s album -- the aforementioned "Surfing..." But that really was more of a "Revenge of the Nerds" approach. Then when he opened his mouth and mistakenly tried to sing on subsequent outings, he was reached total "nerd" "Nerd Factor 11" on the Nerd Scale. Michael Anthony -- granted, blessed with the voice of an angel, was in a band that was bada*s but became suspect when they released what has to be the pinnacle on Nerd Rock Mountain, "Jump". Plus, if you think about it, he was kinda the court jester goofball of that outfit, always hamming it up and mugging for either the video camera or closed circuit arena camera -- more so than Roth, who really did that kinda stuff to take a little edge off his consummate "BADA*SEDNESS". And then there's Will Farrell on drums (I didn't know he played drums?) who makes a living as a total nerdnick goofball. On the other hand, you have Buckcherry, covering "Highway Star" for Nascar's Intro, who are pure 110% BADA*S. So,there you have it, another "Lesson in Rock and Roll", provided free of charge, by Metalboy! who himself, was also once a Bada*s until he hit the age of 40.

Note to Ace: They probably didn't put Deep Purple up for Induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because they're afraid Blackmore won't show up and they're worn out from not having original key members of inducted bands show up for the ceremony, or worse -- entire bands (read: Sex Pistols) not show up.

That said, the real crime is that they did not induct Deep Purple right after Zeppelin, as John Lord would have been alive and the likelihood of getting Blackmore might have been greater.

Still, since we do have Heart, I wonder if Anne and Nancy will have a big enough "heart" to let the classic line-up on stage with them a la some of the classier acts have done, being able to put aside their egos for the "purity" of the occasion and making he moment of their induction more special and magical. Or will they make it all about them. Somehow, I think they'll do the latter but it will be interesting to see.

And, of course, the same goes for KISS, whose induction also could have been delayed because for fear of their only their scab band performing without Ace and Peter.

Without Steve Fossen, Michael DeRosier, the incredible Howard Leese, & the amazing Mike Fisher, What's the point? Those are the guys that gave Heart a heartbeat. Ann is just the voice & Nancy the acoustic eyecandy. All the originals or none of 'em. "Fish" & Leese are what put the magic in "Magic Man".

KISS keeps getting dis-respected because Rolling Stone's Jaan Wenner is a pompous asshat.

blistering!!

Right, Ace. I couldn't agree more. The original line-up of Heart should play. But when you see what went on with that band, ya gotta wonder if those chicks can put it all aside and let it happen.

There may just be to much irreparable damage to let it be possible. Still one can hope!

And as far s KISS goes, I say your same logic applies...

What is the point of even bothering to induct KISS, if Gene is not going to let Ace and Peter join 'em up on stage.

Yes, that is a cover of a Deep Purple song. I give them that. Those are the lyrics and the notes and the rest. Beyond that, I am not sure what else to say without being impolite.

That's why I'm here, but what's stopping you now, HIM! You've been "candid" many times before and quite eloquently.

Also, because you are probably, hands down, one of THE most articulate of Commentors to ever grace the pages of this site, I'm sure you could elaborate without being impolite. We all value your opinion.
