Farewell Jan Kuehnemund

Vixen founder Jan Kuehnemund has died at age 51 from cancer. I didn't even know she was sick and 51 is very young to die. Here's the statement from the Vixen Facebook.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Vixen founder and lead guitarist, Jan Kuehnemund, who lost a fierce battle with cancer on Thursday, October 10, 2013. Though most well known for her gifted guitar playing and other musical talents, Jan was a rare friend and beautiful in every sense of the word. Humble, thoughtful, loyal and kind, she was the most gracious of women, possessing the quiet strength of a true warrior. She genuinely loved and appreciated her friends and fans more than most could ever know. Those who were most fortunate to have known her and loved her are heartbroken at the loss of Jan, whose spirit will shine through her music eternally."

WOW, When I first saw the photo I got all excited but then I started to read & now I'm just shocked & sad.

I'm a pretty big fan of Vixen but I had no idea she had cancer.
That is way to young too die.

I just put Vixen #8 on my list of top 10 greatest glam metal bands of all time (sparked by your post the other day).

To me there self titled debut CD & "Rev It Up" are 2 of the greatest glam metal CD's of all time.

R.I.P

This is very sad. No one should be gone this young. RIP. Condolences to her family.

I hope one day soon we can conquer cancer. I know too many people who have it or had it and lost the battle.

I am getting sick & tired of watching my friends die all around me. Jan's passing is exceptionally close & painful. I'm just going to copy my Facebook Eulogy to her... THIS HURTS.

"Ace Steele - October 11

I just heard that a dear friend, Jan Kuehnemund, the lead guitarist for Vixen has passed away. Jan was a long time staple of the Hollywood rock scene & not just a pretty good guitarist "for a girl", She was a damn good guitarist, period. Sweet dreams, "Kitsune"... Rest In Peace."

Most of you saw Jan a good 5 years before the 1st Vixen record & probably didn't even know it.

Remember the '84 beach comedy movie "Hardbodies"? The earliest version of Vixen, (w/ Stavie Vai's girlfriend Pia on bass) are in the movie as the band "Diaper Rash".

I have the "Hardbodies" DVD. I bought it years ago just because of Vixen. Turns out the movie is actually pretty funny. Any fans of Vixen and/or movies w/lots of topless girls should love it.

I wonder if Vixen will properly reunite because of this.
