Best of 2013?

It's hard to believe but it's already November and 2013 is winding down fast. Before you know it, the holidays will be here and we'll be looking toward 2014.

As part of my gig with Dayton City Paper, I've been tasked with doing a "best of Glam and Metal 2013" list for the end of year issue. Since such lists always take some thought, I figured I better get started now. This is where you come in: I'd like your suggestions. Provide me your opinions on the best of the past year and I'll consider adding to the list. If the band is super obscure, give me a couple tidbits of info. Remember - writing for a newspaper is a different audience than this blog, so I'm going to have to be either a little more general or super descriptive in my best of choices!

I'll spoil the suspense and tell you that Black Veil Brides is definitely making the cut. Now, give me your choices!

Christian: um, (politely and sarcastically): bulldroppings (insert the clearing of the throat when I wrote that mentality). That being said...don't let metalboy get to you....she is never satisfied, mostly confrontational and much harder on me. but, your chioce of music does need some twerking!

I thought I would most likely be the only one with the JOAN JETT and the BLACKHEARTS release on my list. Good to see someone else enjoys it.

Christian: I meant slow in terms of glam/80's sounding music, which you listed almost none of. I was limiting to that as this is a glam website.

Twerking ? :P

Yes, I will admit that Metalboy seems to like picking a fight, not sure why. Apparently, everything from my name to my turn of phrase is open game. Whatever. I'm not going to bother responding. It is indeed all about the music, I'd have bagged out 13 if it sucked, no matter who released it. But, the best of 2013, is definitely Stone Sour, Avenged Sevenfold and Alter Bridge. There's other great music that's come out, but nothing touches those three. Yes, the site is called bring back glam. I like heavy metal, as well as glam. Glam nowadays tends to be very derivative, I like music that pushes the envelope more than music that just pushes the same safe buttons.

Bahahahaha!!!

I listened to Stone Sour, Avenged Sevenfold and Alterbridge. Zzzzzzz. However, I doubt you even listen to anything Glam Metal anymore including many of the bands suggested here. So, it still begs the question, "Why are you even on here?". Your stuff's boring and takes itself too seriously. No wonder you like it.

p.s. What happened to your love of Black Veil Brides, one you got right before you abandoned us. So, put up or shut up, Christian. Let's see an actual thought out list, 1 through 10.

I think Tom Keifer's "The Way Life Goesa" is a no-brainer for this list.

Metalboy, I'm not sure what makes you think I owe you anything. I still like BVB, flew to SF to see them live, and am hoping to see them at Soundwave ( second announcement this week ). My point is entirely that I don't live in the past. Did I not mention BVB ? There's so much good music coming out that, come November, it's hard for me to remember what came out in Jan. A double check tells me it did. OK, great. I'd put it in my top 10, for this year, b/c of how much I loved it at the time, but Stone Sour was better, so I still remember it, although I have only listened to that once in the last couple of months.

At the core, we've already established that your name is Metalboy, but you hate metal and you're mad at me for liking it as well as glam. Would I win points if I told you I thoroughly enjoyed listening to the Def Leppard live CDs this week ? Not that I care. I also got a ton of Will Ray CDs this week ( he's one of the Hellecasters ). I have a wide taste in music. I don't mind that yours is more narrow, I don't get why you're mad at me for having a more open mind than you.

So saying you like BVB gives you cred ?

I have no "cred" btw :) Just don't get what the big deal is about BVB.

Christian! Here we go again! I LOVE Heavy Metal...

Did I not put Black Sabbath, "13", at the TOP of my list?

If it's good, i.e. the latest Sabbath, Accept and Megadeth, among others, as well as tons of new Glam Metal and Hard Rock, I'm all ears.

If it s*cks because it's boring, riffless, hookless and taking itself too seriously like that shite, Stone Sour Grapes and Altersh*t, my ears are closed.

It is you who has been conspicuously lopsided in your appreciation, leaning too heavily on the "Heavy" in Heavy Metal and disrespecting the ALMIGHTY Glam Metal that is the backbone of this site.

I am glad to see you are now at least feigning interest in Glam Metal like the new Tigertailz, etc.

p.s. Reptile! Thanks for the tips! Checkin' Huntress and One-Eyed Doll, etc., now! Kevon, Tesla s*cks... However, I have a big announcement to make regarding Jackyl...

Reptile! Just got HUNTRESS! Hilariously Bada*s! Especially, "I Want To F*ck You To Death", which makes Steel Panther sound like their frickin' bell hops.

Proof once again, though I may call myself Metalboy, it is you people who REALLY know METAL! Except YOU, of course, Christian, hahaha!!!!

I've always liked One-Eyed Doll, if fact.. I saw them live once. Just didn't think the release fit in my Top 10 of the year so far. Another one that I really like is SILVERTUNG - "Devils In The Details". Silvertung is not glam by any means.. Just an in your face, high energy, rockin' band. The CD has only been out a couple weeks and may sneak into my list by year's end.

And now...

Boyz, Boyz, Boyz...

I was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG!!!...

...about...

DRUM ROLL, Puleez...

JACKYL

Here I was all these years, really since they first got my attention on MTV's Headbanger's Ball, dismissing their whole "Redneck Trailer Trash" shtick and as recently as someone last mentioned them on this site, mocking Dupree for thinking his between song banter is funnier than his song lyrics.

Until my buddy, Rob Metal, played 'em again for me recently. I take it all back! "Dirty Little Mind", "Down On Me", "The Lumberjack" (hilarious!), "Screwdriver", all their sh*t, is 110% Bad*ss!!!!
