2014 Rock Hall Inductees Announced

KISS are finally in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Joining them in the 2014 class are Nirvana, Cat Stevens, Hall & Oates, Linda Rondstadt and Peter Gabriel.

I knew KISS would get in eventually. I also knew that Nirvana would get in on this first ballot. Go ahead and discuss.

I know a lot of you have comments on both KISS and Nirvana. I'm only going to inject my opinion on Hall & Oates: I love them and I'm glad they are part of the 2014 class. I know people are already grumbling that Hall & Oates don't belong in the Rock Hall. My argument is that half the artists already inducted aren't "rock" acts anyway, so why not make room for some cool Hall & Oates? After all, they did give us "She's Gone." The tune is one of my favorite songs of all time.

All of this years nominees are deserving, but Nirvana aren't worthy of 1st year eligibility (which is questionable, as they are using the release date of an independent 45 to determine eligibility.) And certainly NOT before Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, The Runaways, Suzi Quatro, Randy Rhoads, The Raspberries, & a host of others. Nirvana was a garage band that literally was a one album wonder. In Utero was seen as a flop compared to Nevermind.

KISS, DEEP PURPLE, & YES all have 40+ year bodies of work. Nirvana? maybe 3 years. & 1 big album.

I agree with Ace. Nirvana only had one album that was significant. At the time, I drank the cool-aid, and liked it. Cannot stand it now and won't listen to it, period.

I don't listen to them but Hall & Oates are classic and deserve to be there. Nirvana, not so much.

Too bad Gene is being a jerk and has ruled out an Ace & Peter reunion for the induction. I think everybody should be there, including Bruce Kulick, Vinnie Vincent and the 2 imposters. Oh well, I'll get over it.

The Doors career only lasted 4 years and Jimi Hendrix's 3 years (1967-1970) and I think are deserving, The Sex Pistols got in with only one official album, which I love and nobody disputes their impact.

Nirvana love them (which I do) or hate them, they were a game changer, 'Nevermind' is still an excellent album and holds up well.

Should they have gotten in before Deep Purple and Judas Priest? IMO probably not, but it does not change the fact they were a great band and the album had a huge impact on my so called generation x.

Finally some justice for KISS. Gene however has no say on Ace & Peter, the Hall does. I'm sure Eric & Tommy will be there, I just hope Bruce is invited. Vinnie.....not so much. Nirvana getting in on the first ballot is a joke but whatever. I never understood the infactuation with Cobain. Deep Purple got screwed. Bet $$ they get in next year. If the poweres that be were smart they would have had an induction every few years then they wouldn't have to fill it with artists that really aren't worthy. But, what do I know! Rock on people!

Just saw all the comments about this under Vince's article yesterday. Nice to know a lot of people are on the same page.

Would love to see them together again. Although I'm a huge KISS fan, I never noticed Peter being crappy on the drums and I saw them at least 15 times. After reading his book though, I'll be surprised to see him Gene & Paul in the same room.

I've never been a big Nirvana fan - I did buy Nevermind when it came out, but it never really grabbed me. But when it comes to their importance to music & pop culture, it's hard to argue that they don't belong on the first balance.

Congrats to KISS, and Hall & Oates.

Let's hope Gene, Paul, Ace and Peter can get it together and give us a couple songs (without makeup would be appropriate) to cap off their 40 year career. Bruce, Vinnie and Eric should be in attendance but definitely not preforming.

No surprise with Nirvava getting in first year eligible, I'm surprised that this joke of an institution didn't make an exception to get them in early; being that they are the 'go to' band for wankers who claim to like rock music.

would someone please explain the induction of Linda Rondstadt to me? Yes, she has a good voice, and yes, some of her early backing band morphed into The Eagles, but that's really about it. As much as I don't care for Nirvana's music, or most grunge music in general, I get why they were inducted based on their influence alone. the Deep Purple snub really ticks me off. I thought sure the elitist snobs who hold the keys to the kingdom would have put their biases aside after Jon Lord's passing, but I guess their holier than thou attitudes know no bounds.

Nirvana & Cat Stevens are the only ones that deserve to be in there.

I could care less about Kiss, Hall & Oates, Linda Rondstadt and Peter Gabriel.

I don't care if Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, The Raspberries or Yes ever get in.

I don't keep track of who's in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Shame, But these bands deserve to be in (if they aren't already):
Motley Crue
Sex pistols
Poison
Ratt
Scorpions
Def Leppard
Randy Rhoads (Quiet Riot, Ozzy Osbourne)

Oh, that is so comical, Jackie Steal, as in "steal my technique of making shocking comments to keep the thread going", hahaha!!!

Check the web...

$immon$ is quoted in Rolling Stone 16 hours ago as saying he would welcome Ace and Peter on stage.

I will comment more on this tonight.

I think they should all wear make up and Ace and Peter should duke it out with their imposters, just like they did in KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park.

Really, I am looking forward to this. Would be nice to see them bury the hatchet.

I don't know what you are talking about metalboi?
I didn't know you ever had any clever techniques.
That's news to me.

I promise you, I would never try to be like you.
I was just speaking my mind like everybody else here.

Nothing I said was shocking to me.
That was the farthest thing from my mind.

Jakki,

Without the Raspberries, you'd never have had a Motley Crue or a Poison.
December 18, 2013 | Unregistered CommenterAce Steele
I know they were a influence for those bands.
I discovered the Raspberries because of Motley Crue.
I just don't think they are all that great.

Hanoi Rocks are far more deserving to get in instead of the Raspberries.
I didn't include Hanoi Rocks because they were never mainstream.
I pick Hanoi Rocks because of the great music they have. Not because they influenced other great bands.

That's not a deciding factor for me.

It is only the original 4 going in for Kiss; no one else. Also, Gene has stated that he is open to playing with Ace and Peter at the show. Should be a good time and sets them up nicely for the 40th reunion tour next year.

Me thinks Jeff is sniffing in the right direction about $immon$ Sudden acceptance of playing with Ace and Peter at the acceptance show....

The money movers and shakers didn't get Picasso at first either. most still don't.
